We are empowering young women from South Central L.A. to make innovative films about reproductive justice. The fact is that teenagers are having sex. But that’s not necessarily the problem. We believe that the problem is that elected officials, schools, and/or parents want to believe they are not in fact having sex. This has created endless rules, regulations, and agencies that pressure schools into withholding comprehensive information in favor of abstinence-only education.

Last year I won several awards for a psa (video public service announcement) that I did for seatbelt use. This year I have been brainstorming and with a group of kids that have taken video journalism at their high schools, we plan to put out a series of teen-made public service announcements about problems close to us.

Greek Club is devoted to the learning of Ancient Greek language and culture. I started the club to spread my knowledge of Greek to other students in my school. Meeting for two half hour sessions a week, I taught my peers the basics of Greek out of the textbook ATHENAZE. To get enough textbooks, I had to pay for about 9 textbooks out of my own money.

Juvenis is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that my brothers Federico, Nicholas and I founded in California in 2004. In short, we aim to elevate and empower immigrant youth in the United States by providing them with critical educational and professional guidance and resources for them to succeed.
The fundamental problem, is a general lack of awareness on the part of immigrant youth who have been incepted into American society sometime during their later years, with little or no proficiency in English, American culture, or their brand new educational setting.

Food is both a basic necessity and a ritual of daily life, yet most young Americans are completely disconnected from the food they eat and have little knowledge of where it comes from and how it’s made.
OrganicNation.tv is an exploration of the American sustainable food landscape focusing on the people, places and products that are shaping a new green economy and lifestyle.
Amid the new fascination with “organic” and “local” foods, we find ourselves bombarded with food labels and advertising that leave many confused about what is best to eat.

My Algebra 2 class and I are doing a tree planting project to contribute to the Billion Tree Campaign so we can help counteract deforestation and global warming in many places in the world. We plan on planting at least 15 trees around our school, and currently trying to involve parents by requesting donations or at least planting a tree or two in their backyard.

The goal of the Shiri Foundation is to find a cure for those who are suffering from osteosarcoma. This disease affects fewer than 1,000 children per year, and because it is so rare, it receives very little funding and has been nicknamed the “orphan disease.” No major advances toward a cure have been made in over 20 years and approximately one-third the number of children diagnosed—about 300—will die each year. Our goal is to assist the fight against osteosarcoma by collecting funds and putting them toward promising research projects.

As an amputee with a website, I frequently receive emails from people looking for help. They write me to say they just lost a leg, or their friend just lost an arm, and were wondering what advice and information I can give them.
