agnostic in a catholic school

Well, I go to a Catholic school and I have no issue with anyone who's Catholic, but I'm agnostic. Most of my friends are fine with it and like to listen to my opinion and way of seeing things, but some other kids just won't have it. When one kid found out I was agnostic she actually started a petition to get me kicked out! Luckily no one signed it, but still it was kind of, well, devastating to me. I very interested in all religions and accept all of them and treat everyone with respect. I used to talk a lot in my doctrine class, but now I'm kind of scared to speak up. I have friends who are all different religions and I don't treat them any differently. So, why would people hate me just because of what I believe?

People definitely should not hate you because of what you believe. You seem to have a very rational and mature point of view on the subject of religion, and have obviously thought the issue through. Many people don't like their beliefs being challenged, and their first reaction is to over-react. While it might be frusturating, continuing to show respect to others is the best way to make others respect you. You should not be afraid to speak your mind, as long as you are polite!

That's Completely dumb. I'm Atheist, I'm pretty much open to hear anyone's opinion on religion but I'm not all that convinced. People like that want to shove their beliefs down others throats. We all believe in something different. You have the right to your own opinion and they can't kick you out just cuz your not Catholic.

People shouldn't hate you for what you believe. I'm Catholic and I think that girl shouldn't have started a petition to get you kicked out of school. I think some people might be mad about you not being Catholic or might not want to discuss religion with you because they are affraid that they don't know enough of what it is to be Catholic themselves.

ok. for one if your agnostic then why do you go to a cathlic school? and for two some peoplpe are just so picky about who's around them and what there like and all that stuff so i would just leaen to eggnor them.

Some people just don't like when someone else has a different belief than them, it bothers them because growing up they were around people who all had the same beliefs. You just have to be headstrong and steadfast in your own belief. Besides its about them, its about you, I am agnostic. I just look at it like its not between me and them anyway, what matters is only me and my belief.

No one should treat you that way. they should treat you the way they would want to be treated. no one would want to be treated that way.

its all about beleiving in our SAVIOR becuase when that day come he is only taking those who believe in Him

You know I think it's ok for you to go that kinda school. I mean hey I know tons of lesbians who go to religious private schools. and I don't think people should put you down for what you believe in. granted I don't fully agree with you view but I'm not going to put you down because of it.plus that would make me a hippocrit because Im christian and I'm dating an agnostic. I think everyone has the right to believe in what they want. I mean people who have true faith know this, because its plainly known that God gave everyone free choice.so keep in mind that the people who are bothering you because of what you believe are probably just not on the same page as God.Don't think that they are what Christians and Catholics are suposed to be, those kind of people give us a bad rep.

First off, I just looked up the definition of agnostic and if that's truly the case for you, I love that even though you don't neccesarily believe in God,yet the possibility and can respect others' religions too; because honestly that gives you a more impartial view of them and can probably appreciate them more too. Even though as a Christian on the track of a mystic (hehe) I LOVE my JESUS and I'd hope that you would too,but then again every Jew,Hindu, and Buddist could come at you in the same way. I don't have the right to shove my beliefs down your throat and I won't-even if I did, because GOD is all about coming with free will, one may come and try to teach, but the Bible says if rejected, quietly recede. So my thing is just let people know more than you respect their religion, that you value it even if it's not your own personal choice, then tell them that you want your beliefs to be valued as well, you'll get your respect then. But also, while there's no restriction against you going there, and you should see it and explore it, a Catholic school is for Catholics to unify in education,so if you don't feel comfortable there, you may just be happier at a public school ya know :)

Look Up :)

Just out of curiosity, why do you go to a Catholic school if you're not Catholic?

As for the girl who tried to get you kicked out, she's just being intoloerant. Does anyone else find it ironic and hilarious that people use God as a reason to dislike/hate people?

(Sorry, accidently posted that twice)

It is this type of "talk" that contributes to the problem of intolerance. Your religious beliefs make you no better than anyone else.

This is really sad. You have the right to be Agnostic, and you also have the right to go to Catholic school! I used to go to a Catholic school and there were many people that went there that weren't Catholic. Catholic school is supposed to be opened to anyone, whether they practice those specific religious beliefs or not. Well, that's what I thought anyway.

You are in a Religious school, but you are agnostic. I think you should first accept that you will be treated differently because you are the odd man out in this situation. It's because we live in a world of hate and ignorance, and intolerance, and at the root of it all is a lack of understanding. It's unfortunate, but those people will not die out and the problem does not go away. However, I think that you are level headed enough to know that not every Catholic person will treat you this way. One of the main problems with humanity is that we think we have the right to judge one another, just keep in mind that every single person in any group it not the same, and always try to give people a chance because this is something that could very easily turn you bitter and hateful.

Well, being in a Catholic school as an Agnostic would probably ruffle some feathers but that's how our society is unfortunately. People are going to try to shove their beliefs in you or segregate you because of yours. The important thing is to surround yourself with people who care and accept you regardless of your beliefs, which you've already done. So forget about that girl with the petition and speak up in class.

Everyone has the right to be heard, and the world needs to learn how to listen.
