Barring a huge surprise, Sonia Sotomayor is expected to be confirmed as the first Latina and third woman to wear the judicial robe. If you could, what would you ask her? Let Do Something know! They’re bundling them up and sending them to Washington!
Will you be an activist, writing policy from the bench or will you follow precedent?
What abortion alternatives will you offer to women? How will you change the state of sexual education in the country?
Should a judge's past experience -- personal, cultural, ethnic, gender, racial background be taken into account when making judicial rulings?
Or should there be a "objective standard" exist in the Court to ensure fair justice is applied?
If so, what is the "objective standard?"
Of all the domestic social issues we currently face which, in your opinion, has the Federal Judiciary not done enough for?
How has your background as a Hispanic American shaped your life and career?
How do you feel about the FCC trying to regulate violence on TV? Do you think it goes against First Amendment rights? Or do you think it helps protect young people?
Innocent immigrant detainees have been treated awfully in the United States; they've been denied basic human rights for simply entering the United States without proper identification. How will you address the situation of the many innocent detainees in the USA?
whether it be conscious or not, you must anticipate some sort of racial and/or sexual tension among the other judges due to your gender and background. That said, Do you feel like that could potentially create discord and thus interfere with your duties? how do you plan to address these issues?
