band books!!

Back to 'Education' forum.

What do you think of band books? People who ban books, ban them for what they are, witch is good. They ban them for religious reasons, or fantasy reasons. I have read so many books that these people burn and ban. TO them there nothing, but to me there a place to get away to, to just get away from everything bad. I read books about vampires, a girl who sees demons and the future, even a girl who gets sucked into dreams ( this book was really banned from a place in the south). Why ban books though, its not like there reading them, they should be happy kids are reading. These books are amazing. And all books have a little fantasy, how do think they are made. By something real? Yeah maybe. But what do you think, should books be banned or should they stay on the shelves and entertain kids.

I am a member of a Methodist Church in a very "old time religion" town. Members of my church disapproved strongly on some of the books I was reading, but I felt they were better than watching tv. If I actually believed in what I was reading(ie Magic,Vampires,Ghosts,ETC) was real, then I would have a problem. I anknowledge the books are pure fantasy and go on with my life.

Books shouldn't be banned cause they relate to us, even the fantasy ones and TV doesn't do that. Its just another way for kids to be like every parent wants them to be. I mean if a book about a gay superhero isn't in an elementary school library i understand but books shouldn't be banned from public or high school libraries.

Books should not be banned. Banning them is like trying to block out information. Some of my friend wern't alowed to read this really amazing book that i read, because it talked about a world without a god. I think that people should be alowed to know that there are other beliefs out there and other possibilities. It's like telling a kid that if u don't believe this and u even think about anthing else being possible, then you'll be in big trouble... i just don't get it.

I never understood why people ban books. I think we should have the right to choose what we read. =)

Well isn't there the whole law that separates religion from state? If someone wants to not let their kid read a book that's fine, but the people who go to the principal and tell them that this is a book no one should read... well that's not something that should happen.

I think that it is wrong to ban books it is not the schools responsibility to teach children’s beliefs but to expand our minds if a parent does not agree with what the child is reading they should sit down with there child and explain there point of view to the child people should stop being so afraid of there child learning a different point of view

I don't think books should be banned. In my school we actually read banned books and what I think that makes the books ban is the language. People have to understand that the authors write about it from their point of view and they want the book to be seen realistic in the way they see it. Even if a book is banned it does not mean that it doesn't have its own meaning.
