Day Of Silence
In my school we have this day called the day of silence its a nation youth movement protesting the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people and their allies in schools. My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is caused by harassment, Prejudice and discrimination. I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward fighting those injustices. Think about the voices that you are hearing today. What are you going to do to end the silence? I am forced to be silenced in my home everyday of my life because my family would never accept a bisexual in their house, especially my mom. Everyday I try to tell them but everyday I am silenced, everyday I am forced to live a life which in which I never intended. When will I be able to speak.

i agree with your statement, whoever out there that is gay or bisexual are afraid to speak out because they don't want people looking at them like they are different. Which they aren't. they chose a life style that they are happy with, and everybody on this planet needs to accept that there are people in this world that are different, and that its cool. For those who are silenced by others, don't be, speak out and be proud.
i think the day of silence is a wonderful thing. it shows those afraid to stand up that there are others who feel the same way they do or support them
Cant wait for this years day of silence! i do it every year!

i am bisexual. i am very open about it. however i do not have a supportive family at all. my dad left last yr the day b4 my birthday. He was gay. he has a bf now, his 2 brothers are gay and his siter a lesbian that has a fiance. his side of the family is ok. but my moms is not. if it were not for all my friends i dnt know wat i would do. i am harrassed every day at home school and the bus.i ignore but it still hurts. me and all my friends will be participating in the day of silence
im not bisexual or gay but 2 of my best friends are and their afraid to tell their family. it dosent matter what your sexuality is if their your family thay have loved you your whole life why would they stop now and if their truly yor friend they will still be your friend
I am looking forward to the day of silence! I am part of an activist video blog project, I make videos every Friday for my organization, we have about 50 subscribers!
The day of silence falls on a Friday, and I plan to make a video outlining prejudice, because of the Day of silence, I will not speak in my video, but will have to find another way to communicate. Perhaps I will hold up pieces of paper with my message on it, perhaps I will put those little speech bubbles in, I haven't decided, but I do plan on doing something to call attention to the discrimination!
A day of silence is a great way to end the day. The silence helps people review their day and how it went just to see if they can make tomorrow a better day then today! In english class last term, we had a day of silence everyday and it was a good thing to think about the past and think about the future to see what happened and what will happen?

all postings i think, are legit. I participated in The Day Of Silence for the first time in 2008, when I came out and was open to saying I am bisexual. I don't think it's anything to be ashamed of or embarrassed about. It's such a huge controversal issue, but in the long run, why are people fighting it and trying to prevent it. All-in-All The day of Silence is pretty great, and makes people reflect on where they are in life, and where the want to be. Maybe one day, we won't need a day of silence to prove our point. One Day.
I completely agree. Someone who is gay or bisexual is no different than a straight person. We are all human, we all have brains, hearts, and feelings. We can help these feelings, and they are what makes you...you.
OH MY GOSH!!!! Day of Silence is such a great idea!!! I wish my school would do this!! I'm DEFINITELY going to start one now!!! I'm not gay or bisexual, but I HATE the way people just say "That's GAY!!!" for no reason!! I have a bisexual friend who's having a hard time at school because of it and another who is perfectly comfortable within herself but her dad,who doesn't know is prejudice. Every time I hear somebody say That's Gay I shout out very loudly GAY MEANS FESTIVE and if someone calls another a fag I say A FAG IS BUNDLE OF STICKS because it literally does mean that. I hate discrimination of any kind, but more than that I hate I am motivated to do something about it because you HAVE to be the change you want to see you just HAVE to. I'm a full believer in being the way GOD blessed you to be,and happy,to explore yourself and be free. And all those people who go "Well GOD put Adam and Eve in the Garden not two Adams or two Eves" I think that shows how GOD wanted diversity and unity within that(meaning that we should all love respect eachother despite our differences), while a woman and man is traditional, and personally feel I need that opposing masculinity and Yin and Yang sort of relationship, I wish that people would stop breaking themselves down for who they are. You are here because you are BEAUTIFUL and your life is significant;and through it you should LIVE and be free. Otherwise it becomes worthless and pretty much dead. My advice for someone facing those stereotypes is first and foremost pray on it GOD loves YOU, look yourself every morning and say it too. But most importantly with your life as a person of your sexuality you have a lifetime opportunity to show people what you all true are!!!
Look Up :)
I participated in the Day of Silence for the last 2 years. Sadly, this year I could not but next year I know that I will again. It really does show a lot of people that we are the same! In a club I was in last year [R.A.D] was a Gay Straight Alliance. And it was great for the simple fact that allies [like myself] got educated on some of the horrible things that happen to people of other sexual orientation. My only problem with the Day of Silence are the people who mock me and my friends about out silence.
I hope more and more people participate next year!
I participated in day of silence and was seent to my principals office because I would not answer the teachers question. It was ridiculous and the teacher forced me to break my silence;(
It was quite annoying and I am going to participate next year....
Although I am straight, I have 2 cousins, one is gay and the other is bisexual. My gay cousin is even in the army. I think being gay, lesbian, transgender, or bisexual is nothing to be ashamed of. No one should be harrassed, teased, bullied, ect. just because of who they love, or who they are. My bi cousin (female) lives with another woman. Do I have anything wrong with that? No, I don't. So to all the gays, lesbians, transgenders, and bis out there, be PROUD of who you are, although you might go through some tough times, remember, THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOU. You guys are amazing the way you are. Don't be somebody you're not. If somebody is not ok with who you are like a family member or a classmate, explain to them that you aren't wrong, you're human like everyone else. You just like different people. And to all people who say, "That's so gay.", That's REALLY offensive, so either don't say it, or just don't talk at all. Again, to all gays, bis, lesbians, and transgenders, you guys are AMAZING with all you go through. The rest of us should NOT make fun of you, we should be appreciating you. Most different sex couples in America end in Divorce, while the majority of same sex couples stay together. So, if someone doesn't accept who you are, just remember, alot of other people will.
