Did America take too much time to react to the issues of global warming?

Everyone seems to be suddenly going "green," but haven't there been studies about global warming and its effects for years?? Share your opinions on this.
America was not quick to react, and the reaction we have now is due mosttly to Al Gores film "An Inconvinient Truth." without this publicity, much of the action taken probably would not have happened. still, our reaction was very similar to the rest of the worlds. the major problem is that many people in try to deny global warming. this has effected some of Bush's descisions as president, such as not participating in the kyoto protocol
America was extremely slow, we knew the energy crisis was going to start around the time of the 1970s, and this was in the 1950s when we knew it was coming, but our actions were very ineffective, we looked for foreign oil to provide energy. On the topic of global warming, America has been very slow to accept the facts that scientists were trying to tell them and they wanted to keep thinking they weren't causing any problems and that everything was fine.
yes its taking to much time. the politicians just talk about it instead of doing things. we should make them try now. let us give them a test instead of just waiting around like a statue. let us see how big their "green foot" is. and im a democratic
America should have reacted to the issue many years ago! Global warming would have been easier to fight if we had attempted to "go green" years ago. We should have done something to help our Earth. Our Earth had done so much for us. We shouldn't be destroying it!
I think America was really quite irrelevant in the recent decision to go green. The information has been out a long time, but it simply isn't profitable for corporations to go green. I don't think America is too blame, I think it is the unavailability of the information to the public in past years, and corporate greed.
Tazzyken has a very good point here, its not the fact we didn't respond, its the fact that even when we feel a personnel connections to events it still doesn't mean we're willing to risk political careers on it, Al Gore is the perfect candidate for how your political career can be destroyed by being an "environmentalist" it seems like a bad word now days when politicians call people that.
Also remember the information was skewed in the late 1990's by oil company think tanks. In response to a debate topic that was made and was debated over warming the idea of misinformation was used to prevent action.
I believe the problem doesn't fall on our congressperson but on our societies overall ideology that endless consumption is sustainable and that this sustainable project of consumerism is going to last forever.
We need to reeducate our society not just by blogging but by use of our complex universal connections with other human beings to change these view points.

There is no such thing as Global Warming. Look at the facts! It is all a sham by Al Gore to line his pockets with money! HE has made over 90 million on this lie. IT has been proven to be false by over 750 UN scientists that actually study the earth's atmosphere. Al Gore should be in jail for fraud, killing miilions in africa due to the high cost of food and he has caused the dead zone in the gulf of mexico to become even greater (fertilizer and ethenol). Mr Gore should be placed on trial by the UN commision on human rights and sentenced to mlife in prison. The man has foole millions and millions out of people and he must be made to pay the price in jail.
WHy would America respond to something that does not exist in any manner. This is all a fabrication by numeorus people to sucker the ignorant out of their hard earned money. If you believe in this lie fine send them your money but don't touch mine. It is mine and anyone that would believe an idiot like Al Gore whom has no intelligence in sciene in any manner is a fool. Al Gore should be in jail for crimes againt humanity!
I give President Obama props for finally signing the Kyoto Treaty now we can lessen the use of the toxic gasses that trap heat on the earth.Also thanks to Al Gore and his persistence on spreading the information about Global Warming without him I don't think any one would be acting yet...I also do agree that the US and the rest of the world was too slow in acting and now we as the future generations have to clean up after them..If only they had listened instead of denied the truth...
In my opinion I think people are ridiculous. Now people are choosing to recycle. I mean come on Global warming has been happening right infront of our faces for awhile now. I think its kind of too late to do anything now that things are starting to fall apart. Common Sense people geez.

Al Gores film "An Inconvinient Truth." just spread word- but nothing in this country has really been acted upon. You watch the news for a week and tell me how much you hear the mention of this issue....not counting earth day, its none! The gov't just doesnt want to aknowledge issues like this because they deem it as unimportant. Facts have been around us for quite a while- and whenever someone brought the topic up, the majority's responce was 'it doesnt exist, nect issue please'
Going green is a fad, but that doesn't mean it's any less effective. At one point being a feminist and advocating for a woman's right to vote was a fad too.
America and Australia have been slow to react to global warming and to this day we are suffering. I am going green to save this planet and if other people are good on ya'!!!
