Discrimination and sterotyping

I'm tired of the discrimination and stero-typing.
Blacks are the number one race. Who has to deal with this issue.I think it's time we wrok together and stop killing eachother. We are all people we need to start acting like it.This economy is so terrible at this point we should be working together to fight for our rights against the goverment.

All stereotypes have an element of truth. There's nothing discriminatory about them.

Discrimination is wrong, and their is something wrong with them when their putting blacks in he same group saying their all the same, the same with whites, who said we believe the same thing. were human beings, we shouldn't be characterized by the why we act, or race, or the place we live, Like the saying goes, "don't judge a book by it's cover."

I don't think skin color should have anything to do with how someone is viewed as a person. Because it doesn't.

They only way they could have an element of truth is when you are talking in general about the whole human population. Your implying that certain races are 'attracted' to certain behaviors. All races commit crimes, all drop out, all have teenage pregnancies, etc, etc.

I absolutely do not like stereotyping because it should give us as black people a reason to stop feeding into and its like where I am fom they just make it worse, I can walk down the hallway and hear someone talking loud and I would hope it could be anyone but for some reason its always a black person. Black people don't have to act that way, we are better than that and all that work that all the old pioneers have done seems to not make any difference and that is completely ridiculous! Discrimination and stereotyping should definitely not exist and it does and thats sad.

I completely agree, discrimination is wrong, flat out, there's no reason for it, everyone is unique inside and out and just because they have different skin or religion doesn't matter. Stero-typing, is just pointless. Does it mean I cut myself because I wear tight jeans, converse have a side bang, with bright coloured pieces of hair and whatnot making me "emo or scene"? NO! Or maybe I have my own style and it changes a lot, does that make me a poser/wanna be? I don't think it does, it just means I wear what i like, because it is comfortable, or i like the way something looks on me, (eg: the colour works well with my eyes or the cut of the shirt works well on my figure) Its just stupid and pointless and used because people cant just call someone by the only label that can in no way be used as an insult, the persons name. thats the only label there should be. End of story.

Many steryo-types lead to discrimatory behavior, which is irrational and wrong.
A theory I have is steryo-types are cased by fear and ignorance. Therefore, in order to stop hatred against race, religion, ethnicity, or orientation, we must teach not to discriminate at a wide scale.
This is why these things are or should be taught at schools, homes, media, and religion.

I dont think its right to judge a person by what you find on the outside...I dont like the fact that too many people focus on whats different all the time instead of what we have in common like lets say were all human?

i understand what you are saying. Im black and i like to wear skinny jeans and converse. Im not like a wannabe or anything, I like the way it looks on me. But many people like to say that im white or im just a wannabe. Sometimes they joke around but it still hurts my feelings. And Im just now starting to get comfortable with myself. I absoutely HATE labels. I just like to be diffrent from everbody else.

It is not fair to say that we do not discriminate. We all do, in one way or another -- after all, we are all human beings. We all associate. That's how we establish our identities... it is however unfortunate that sometimes we associate through discrimination or stereotyping... or labeling... or whatever you would like to call it.

I believe the important this is to be aware of our prejudices and develop a tolerant attitude that appreciates the uniqueness of all individuals! :D

A bit of fragrance always clings to the hand that gives roses.

discrimination is wrong, but im not saying that i dont do it. see, this is where people get overwhelmed. the things that we do are very small. What the world is talking about is stuff on a much bigger level. We need to stop sweating the small stuff, and focus on more important things.

Tomorrow never comes, so what about today?

do everything you can to help beofore it's too late

As a black person myself, some of us give into the sterotype that we're ignorant, 'ghetto', rude, drop-out, get pregnant early, etc. but on the news when someone gets murdered it is sadly another black person who commited the crime. i dress and act differently than most of the black kids at my school. i wear converse, i listen to alternative rock music, wear skinny jeans, and i have went out with white guys. i get discriminated against by the people i'm supposed to have the most support from. yet they sterotype me as a wannabe white girl.

i agree. because im smart, i dress nice, i live in a nce neiborhood and my family is close. im the white girl. i feel like my race puts me down. anything good is white and thats not true.

And all of this doesn't even count for all the discrimination that happens over the Internet! Check out my topic to find out more about this.

Discrimination has existed for a long time but although it has been a LLLLOOOONNGGG time... nothing has really changed. People constantly judge others prior to really knowing who they really are. I still see it and honestly, I feel its best when you confront that person by telling them how you feel by their judgment.
we have discussed this as a class in my school where my friends told others how they felt when they were stereotyped as "ghetto". After that confrontation, I feel that my classmates understand how they felt and the way we see each other has changed.

You know what discrimination I hate the most? Adults thinking/ assuming that ALL teenagers party, drink, do drugs, are ignorant etc. We aren't all like that. I know this as a fact. I would like this to change. We are the future. We can change the world. Why put us down and make us sound like people that don't about issues when here we are on dosomething discussing issues. I wish there was some way to change everything but, i can't.

When this topic is on black people have you also thought of the other races that are widely made fun of. I think the other two are the Hindu and Muslim religions. I think there is nothing wrong with black, whites, muslims ( personally I don't care what race you are I just judge you based on your personality). Everyone needs to take a reality check and relize what they are saying to others.

Think About It...

My name is Dani Atkins and I am one of 4 surviving children of Ronald Edward Atkins and Clancyna Marie Atkins. On January 26, 2008 my father was killed in a tragic car accident that took place only 2 minutes away from my home. My parents had been married for 30 years at the time of the accident without separation. As I have been assisting my mother with putting together various lawsuits and claims against several different persons, insurance companies, and even the Los Angeles Police Department regarding several acts of negligence and dishonor surrounding my fathers death, I have come across a disturbing piece of information that I, being a 24 year old African American person am appauled. My father having been born on April 9, 1955, has a birth certificate that identifies his color and race as being "NEGRO." My grandmother, Eloise Marie Harrison having been born on April 4, 1933 has a birth certificate that identifies her color and race as being "NEGRO". My mother, who is still alive, Clancyna Marie Atkins born on September 4, 1956 has a birth certificate that identifies her color and race as being "NEGRO" as well. And I am quite sure there are thousands if not milliions of other African American people dead or alive who have been identified on paper at birth as being "NEGRO" I am absolutely disgusted that the United States of America even in 2009 have not made an attempt to make right this defamation of character in administering all new birth certificates to those who have died as well as those still living to identify these HUMAN PEOPLE with dignity and respect. I am passionately committed to make my fathers name wholly reflect the honorable father, husband, and man that he was and the fact that his life was not even given an opportunity to start before he was branded on United States of America paper as being a "NEGRO" is a disgrace and a shame on America.

I agree, descrimination hurts. Just because someone believes, practices, looks, or thinks different does not make them bad. Pagans get such a horrid reputation just because of hollywood and the lies. Just for the record Pagans do not worship the devil or make animal sacrifices let alone people. It hurts when people assume such awful things about all the people. I say if you're a good person that's good enough for me, why sweat the small stuff when it truly does not matter.

Its shameful how bad discrimination is. And its even worse that there are so many different forms of it and its not only African Americans who feel it! Like jasonpierce97 and Foxsong17 said, it hurts others too, its selfish of African Americans to make it seem like we were the only ones enslaved. I hear you guys, but we need to stop harping on one ethnicity thats discriminated against and we need to include everyone so we can create a diverse nation, so our kids can know nothing of this invisible line that separates us.Now that I am in college I find myself being one of the few African American faces in all of my sociology classes so I was in the hot seat almost every time we got on that subject, but I loved it. I did not get upset at people because of their assumptions, because it is natural for people to go by what they hear. I just educated them on the reality of things.

We even discriminate against our own ethnicity because of social class, skin complexion, grade of hair ect. When I came out of my sociology class I did not believe in race because the only reason we changed is because of migration and adaptation. Im sorry to say, but I blame religion, money, and social class for the rest of the discrimination...we need to realize that all of our ancestors came from the same place and they all started off wearing animal skin and living in huts.
We need to learn to be more comfortable with ourselves, to love ourselves, to please ourselves and not our neighbors or friends, because we are going to die by ourselves and we will all be buried in dirt to become a part of the circle of life...

I believe in affirmative action. I believe that everybody regardless of race, sex and or religions should have and be judged by the same criteria WITHOUT race, sex or religion playing a role.
What I am saying is, affirmative action is actually a PC (politically correct) way to be racist and/or race biased towards one race over the other and that is Racism in the purest form.
Why is it ok to say “I will be racist to you in order not to be racist to him/her?” “Why is it ok to judge one person by their color, sex or religion in the name of not judging the other by the same criteria?” This opinion is not only mine but rather one of many scholars, professor and thinkers alike in all “racial” sector or communities.

All people deserve to be judged EQUALLY! People should be judged based on qualification for the job and or task at hand.
Education is available to all!

I dont know how you feel but I have noticed that the discrimination of blacks has turned to the other side where they make other people with white skin. we are automaticly made into the bad guys because we dont want to vote for (Obama) the colored culture.

I am not racist I just feel tormented by the way people act. I have live in promanately white towns, and promanatly black towns. It the same everywhere I go.

Some times I feel that people want to be put higher on the social ladder just because of the past.

I think so too but people won't stop sterotyping it becomes a habit for some people to do that suppose someone you've never seen wlaks up to you and starts talkig to you and you think there weird automaticlly you thought that and then you start thinking all these other things and then you classify them in this group you created in your mind so techniclly we all sterotype once in a while and we sometimes don't even know it

discimination IS wrong! i mean america is probaly the only contry that doesnt have just 1 type of person. there whites, blacks, italians, germans, ect. we are all people though and we need to start treating eachother equaly.

saying that black people are the number one race to deal with discrimination isn't very true. it depends on where you live. i'm jewish (for the record judiasm is NOT a race!! it's a religion) and where i used to live i constantly faced discrimination for my religion. i've even had pennies thrown at me for being a "penny pincher jew."
it sucks to be discriminated. and it sucks when you know people of your race or religion that is constantly under scrutiny make the predjudice worse by living up to those stereotypes. like a jewish person being obnoxiously stingy, or a black person being loud/ ghetto.
it's all rude, but it happens :/ and it'll probably never stop.

I think most of the problems about discrimination and stereotyping comes from our environmental influences within our community. Today teens stereotype and discriminate just for a laugh. Its really a shame but I agree we should do something to raise awareness of this.

is it really that discriminating in the USA??
I'm sorry for awkward questions, but I live in England and have never been told that the USA is as you decribe it as. Please tell me what goes on.
At my school I have never seen racism except for a fight that went on supposedly because a boy said something racist. When my friends told me that the boy that was racist had blood all over his face I said (quite loudly) 'Good!! If he was racist he deserved that'

I feel that i shouldn't be disliked or looked down upon just because im black just because one or a group of black people did something out of character that doesn't give anyone the right to say that all black people act and look the same.
