DOES THE GOVERNMENT CARE ABOUT HUNGER???

Back to 'Poverty' forum.

If hunger is an issue in the world, why is it that the government doesn't care. Hunger is a HUGE issue. 37 countries in the world live on less the 1.25$ a day. I just think that so many people take their food for granted. WHY IS IT THAT GOVERNMENT DOESN'T CARE!?!?!

If you think about it, there are a lot of things the government doesn't care about.
It takes members of the community to reach out and help to get the government to care. By helping the hungry in your community you make the government look worse, and eventually they will come to your aide, until then it's up to the people to help the people.

You're right. The government doesn't care. But truly it's because they don't see it as their job. All those people belong to other countries and as such, the government considers them to be someone else's problem. It's terrible, but the only way it will ever come right is if governments are concerned, and this will only happen if the people who vote them into power are concerned. The moment that poverty becomes as important an issue to the American public as, say the war on Iraq, is when something will be done. It's a problem of society, not government. While they should have more social conscience, they need an incentive to do something.

I think it is unfair that the government is not spending enough money for the people in Iraque.

Absolutely not. I won't mention names but there have been quite a few people/companies in the govt. who have been really rude & selfish and have point blank told me "Listen if this program will not bring in financial benefits for us, then we have nothing to talk about."

It is quite easy to propose questions such as, "Does the government care?" but the real question we should be asking is, "What are WE going to do about it?"

At the end of the day, it is up to YOU and ME to make change. Organizations and movements such as DoSomething, Me to We, Free the Children, Rooms to Read, Spread the Love and hundreds of others are making a real difference. You can join these organizations as volunteers or leaders, positively impacting the world.

J. F. Kennedy once said, "Nothing is more stirring than the recognition of great public purpose. Every great age is marked by innovation and daring - by the ability to meet unprecedented problems with intelligent solutions."

So get involved. Educate yourself. Ask questions. Volunteer. Donate. Stand up for something you believe in. Get out there and Do Something!

Didn't the goverenment make a promise to free people from extreme poverty by 2015, in the Millenium devolpment goals (forgive me if i spelled that wrong)? Well, we are less then half way there and the deadline is only 6 years away!!!! If the goverment wants to reach those goals, they need to get on with it, rather then worrying about themselves. Don't get me wrong, im worried about the economy, too, but a promise broken is a promise broken.

I agree with crystalclear1987. A lot of people in government are being self centered.

Hate to say it but some people won't do anything that doesn't benefit them. The government can't be troubled by it right now (in their opinion) so it's up to everyone else....like us.

Not only does the government not care about those who are starving in other countries, but right here in the U.S the government is ignoring hungry Americans. If they cared they would spend the money to fix this problem. Again, I don't think the government as a whole really cares about those in need.

Did the goverment ever consider that hunger is more a less a father to crime. Hunger depletes education rates, which, in return causes more drop-outs. More and more people have to steal food to provide the basic meals for their families. Did I mention that crime only adds to their to-do list, which, last time I checked, was pretty huge.

The government is just out for money. Also, there more of us than there is for the government so maybe we need to change as well. We are a nation and this is an issue and yet we haven't all addressed fully so maybe that's something we need to think about as well.

In America it is listed that 323,000 households are below the poverty level, 90% of those households are covered by Govt programs like welfare, medicad, and food stamps, 100% of those households qualify for WIC which provides food for infants up to 5 year olds and once the child enters school those same households qualify for the school food program and that covers students breakfast and lunch for free or very reduced prices until they graduate school, so for a child to go with out food is normally do to neglect of the parent, so in america hunger is not a real factor, Now world wide hunger is another issue, our country has teamed up with NATO many, many times to help countries with genicide happening, one of the reasons we invaded Iraq was that 5000 women and childeren were dying each MONTH to starvation at the hands of Saddam and the UN food for oil scam, americans can stand proud knowing we have been leaders in the fight to stop hunger, its the greedy small govt's that dont feed their own people.
