Is "being green" a political statement?

Back to 'Environment' forum.

There has been a huge deal of controversy over global warming for the past couple years now, and it seems to have divided political parties yet again. Is the fight against global warming a political one? Is it truly global warming or just another heat wave? Should humans be concerned?

although there is research that both supports it and negates global warming, it is important that we take all possible steps to prevent global warming because if it isnt a problem now, it will be in the future.

well, being green is a hard thing too do and its very expensive for a one-income family and while obama wants everything too be green without taking the little steps mcain and Palin belive that we should drill in the united states untill they figure out an inexpencive way too be "green" I agree with mcain and Palin . Anyway what is the differece in drilling in the united states or a different part of the world bolth will hurt the earth so it would be a waste of money

Yes, the global warming and "Green Movement" is a political one. I do not believe it should be, we already see affects of our actions affecting the climate a little and it's important that humans are concerned. There are many scientific models that back up the humans causes of global warming, people say "They may be wrong, you never know, why should we bother to care?", my answer to that is, better safe than sorry and it's not just global warming that's a problem, the environment is taking a whole toll as it is from our actions and we must try to fight against this. Humans should be very concerned about our affects on the enviornment, I fear the worst, that our actions will cause a global entinction in the long run, it wouldn't be the first time such a thing happens. Of course, that's an extreme cause, but there are many other problems that can be caused due to ourlack of caring about the environment.

Well I do have to agre with you on the parties using to get votes, but alot of pepole who were in the communist parties in the last 20 years have used man made gobal warming to get them into postionsof power.

I hope that "Green" is NOT a partisan issue. It is scary thought that saving the planet would be tied to only a portion of the political spectrum.

I think a lot of the politics around this issue deal with semantics like Global Warming vs Climate Change. For me it boils down to lifestyles that promote pollution and waste are unsustainable for the planet.

There is no debate in the scientific community over whether global warming is legitimate or not. The debate comes from the media. If want to learn the facts about global warming go to scientific websites, like the Union of Concerned Scientists website, and learn about the very real science of global warming. The green movement has become a political movement because the government regulates where our energy comes from.
Of course humans should be concerned about global warming, it effects everyone whether you choose to believe it or not.
I think its good you have questions and are asking them. Keep on researching global warming. Yahoo! Green is great place to look. Also, I recommend watching Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth and going to his website. Don't judge a book by its cover; and Inconvenient Truth can answer a lot of your questions.

Political Parties?

Global Warming isn’t just a political issues its world wide. Global warming doesn’t just affect the United States it affects everybody in the world. Over the past year people really haven’t understood what global warming really means until really Al Gore made his video which is sad because people should have realized that long before his statement.
