Is it O.K. to test products on animals?

...because, while I'm against all forms of torture (especially on animals), how can companies know that their product is safe? Would they test on humans instead? Is it worse to test on an unknowing organism than one that understands the consequences of a product test? -your friendly DoSomething intern.
i think that as long as the tests are humane, it is okay
it is a proven fact that about 2/3s of people who use animal tested medicine die from inacturately tested products and I really think that they should stop animal testing, Because it will save human and aniamal life.

Animal testing isnt right...and of course i dont like the idea of testing on humans either but how else are we going to know if something is god or bad?
when it comes down to it, all that matters is whats you feel is more important, a human life or an animal's life

I do not believe testing should be allowed on animals. Though science and many of our products have come along by testing it on animals, I feel so bad for the little helpless creatures.
I know if a product has "NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS" I will more likely purchase that brand. I have seen some of the cruel and unjust tests run on them and it is terrible. :(
Animal testing isn't right. There has to be another way to test products than on animals, or people; the companies who don't test on animals find another way, why can't all companies?
TESTING ON ANIMALS IS NOT OKAY!!!, its animal cruelty. People who do this are injecting poor defenseless animals with nasty mixtures of drugs, that might not even work. Do they actually know how it effects the animal. It could be effecting them internally, mentally even physically. Companies or organisations shouldnt be testing there products on animals, what happens to them once theyre finish, are they just gonna leave them on the side of the road, i doubt it. If something isnt done, animal testing is gonna continue and more and more animals will become victimised. STOP ANIMAL TESTING. ITS CRUEL. its just like using humans as guinea pigs.
so if they still test on a human anyways, why test on an animal? i personnally think its wrong to test on an animal, because it's not with their consent and against their will. we would never force a human to test without wanting to, so why should it be any different for animals?

This is a difficult topic to state on. While I dont approve of animal testing I would never volunteer myself to test something out. I dont approve of animal testing but sometimes it is necessary.

i don't really see the difference between animals and humans. i mean yeah i know theres a difference physically, but every animal has a mother, a father, and possibly even children just like humans. its animal abuse and animal abuse is illegal. but animal abuse all of a sudden isn't illegal if your a scientist or something? and its even more stupid that animals are hurt and may even die for things like soap, perfume or shampoo. i mean seriously people! you would let an animal suffer just so your hair can spell like flowers?!
Animal testing is completely inhumane, and even if it were, what's the guarantee the drug would work on us after testing? Because of our DNA differences, the drug could have entirely different effects!!! It's pointless and cruel.
I was having a coversation last night about this! At first i wasa all against it but someone told me that the animals aren't treated bad!!!! People know these days what are deadly or harmfull to animals and people! so now i don't see the problem really!

Yeah, but why are we testing on animals if in the end us, and only us, are going to get good results? Why should they have to suffer for OUR benefits? WE develop AIDS and all those diseases, not them.

I'm going to go all broken record here and say that I don't think animal testing is right but I certainly don't think untested products should be used on humans. I'm really not sure what else could be done, ya know? I just feel a little uneasy that companies want to use all these weird chemicals that they don't even know how they affect people. Go organic!

Animals that are tested on often have open sores, disease, and most of them die. They never get to have a life. They only know pain, fear, and unstability!

I am not against 100% animal testing but neither am I pro animal testing.
In my view experimenting cosmetic products on animals is simply plain wrong and I would never support it, because we dont actually need it.Personally, I would like that person before they put on that lipstick, concealer, or whatever it is to realize that, for their vanity, a living creature had been drugged, shaved, scalded and maybe even mutated for them.
While I dont agree with the use of cosmetic products on animals, I am unsure about the use of animals for medical reasons. Because it is necessary. Imagine the number of people that would die each year without a vaccination tested beforehand. Yes, I know that it may seem selfish but has anyone thought that with just one animal's life we have saved thousands, if not, millions of people?
Also it is not only beneficial for us as humans but for animals too. Each year dogs are given vaccinations reducing their exposure to diseases such as rabies.
Media has made many people look at the cruelty and suffering caused by animal testing with out even looking into the other side of story.

I don't think it is right to test on animals because there living things, we should respect the creatures of the earth. We don't need to kill animals for our own purposes whatever they may be.
In your life time have you taken a drug(antibiotics? Were you given vaccinations against diseases (MMR, tetanus, polio, cervical cancer,) as an infant?
How can you argue that animal testing is unnecessary when you are alive because of medical research on animals?
Ok my point of view is this. I am a firm christian. First let me say i don't like the fact or idea of animal testing but God put animals on this planet first of all to keep our lands clear for planting food and to kill and eat. most animals were put here to kill and eat others for milk, cheese, and eggs.we would not survive without these things.Do you go up to a cow and say may i eat you, no you dont because they have no say so. animals were put on this earth to help us as humans survive, no matter what the task. Yes i have seen the videos where they are torturing these animals but do you really think every company is that way. I have to ask myself this question. If someone you loved very much was about to die and a company told you we have something that can help her but we want to test it on a animal first or that they had tested it on a animal. would you let your loved one die?

I personally don't use any products tested on animals. I disagree with the fact that most animal testing isn't even done for medical reasons its for beauty products. And even if it is for a medical reasons, animals don't always react the same way humans will in some circumstances.

I totally disagree with the idea of animal testing!!!! If you've ever gone onto peta2.com, looked up what animal testing really is, and saw what I saw; you'd never EVER agree with it! The point is, there is no humane way to animal test! I understand that we have things that no one wants to test on humans, however, how is testing on animals in any way better?? I vote NO!!!!
I dont agree with animal testing for things like cosmetics or botox, you know, vanity things. However, when testing things like cleaning products, I believe it to be necessary. Human tissue samples only help, but in order to get the full possible effects they must be tested on something living. If people tested only on humans, we'd all be extinct by now. Besides, 90% of these tests are done on mice and rats. Whats more important, a rats life or a humans life. As for other testings that arent for cleaning products, or vanity things, I believe it to be very necessary, as these certain tests help scientists understand brain diseases like epilepsy, polio, bipolar disorder, and others. These tests help millions of lives. Im not for animal testing, but most of the time, its necessary.
I think that if companies need to test there product on animals people they should make it differently. Use gentler, more natural ingredients. Go organic! But if a product does need to be tested, I think it should be on animals. The bible says that God gave us animals and He cares about humans more than He cares about animals.
I think that it is completely inhumane to test on animals. Striking statistic: animals such as chimpanzees used for animal testing have a greater capacity to understand what is going on than severely autistic children. Therefore, if it is based on "intelligence"... you catch my drift, as disturbing as it may be. (I certainly hope not to offend anyone, as I am absolutely NOT trying to say that mentally disabled people are stupid. I am simply reminding us that animals are often more intelligent than we give them credit for!) Everyone knows that many companies pride themselves in not using animal testing: if those companies can, why can't they all?
Yes. It may not be always pleasant, but animal testing can help save lives- even if some animals are unfortunately killed, their donation to science may save more lives than were sacrificed.
Yes, it could save lives. But people are testing BEAUTY products on animals. I would rather the whole world look ugly then us kill a bunch of animals and look pretty!
