People making initiative law at all levels of government
Many would like to believe that the Congress or representative government can solve all of the people's problems. However, that is only if that's in the interests of the representative in question. On election day, the people vote to give their power away to their representative, stripping the power away from the people. It is imperative in a true democracy that the people have the power to make laws. Even though this is not a perfect system and the people may make mistakes on the first try, giving power to the people is like giving more and more responsibilities to a child. The more responsibilities that the child can handle, the more mature he or she will become. In legislation, it will be no different: the people will learn to mature and self-correct the mistakes they have made in this process.
Please see my project page for how you can get involved to help to give the people the power to make laws!

The thing is giving the people the power to make laws can result in having the rights we do have taken away as far as democracy goes. We as a nation are not mature enough (I believe) to have that heavy a responsibility on us, only because our individual issues that we may want to be addressed are not those of everyone's. Giving the people laws can result in destruction of many different things. This is why we have a president, one person to address the problems and issues that we as a nation and of individual people see today. It would be a great thing if people learn to mature and self- correct the mistakes they have made in the process, but those mistakes could result in bigger mistakes and in today's economy especially that is something we can't afford. People will grow more mature but in a time of need we can not wait for the maturity level to rise, instead we need people who are already mature like the president and senator etc... people who know now what course of action needs to be met and who have the experience and maturity to know the needs of others.
