School Spending

I'm new to this website so please bare with me. It has come to my attention that some schools (well at least in my city as far as I know) are willing to make their school look "better" than actually trying to help out their students. For example, I live a five minute walk from my old high school. When I attended there, I didn't think they would make dramatic changes to it because they were already lacking in supplies for the students. But some how a year or so after I left there and went to a different high school they ended up getting funding from the state (from what I know) to remodel the school. Ok, I wasn't the smartest kid in school, but wouldn't it have made more sense to get up to date books and supplies for the students then just "remodeling"? It isn't just my school, its other schools in my city that are remodeling as well. yes it is important to have a school where it is safe and not have to worry about stepping on the wrong side of the hallway and end up under the school, but the time they are wasting by remodeling could be used for other things these teens need. The money they are using could be for educational field trips or better plumbing or better lockers, or at least something that would benefit the student. What are they getting out of by having a really big school. The way they have it set up is that our school might as well be a shopping mall just without the stores and food court. They have two two story buildings one on each side of the main entrance. and one right inside the main entrance. Which means they legally have to have elevators for those who can't use the stairs. Why would they want to make the school more "bulky-er" instead of using that money for more educational reasons? They don't have a wood shop classroom, so those who want to take it have to go to our rival school and take it there. Some of the books they have are almost out of date (well the last time I was there). Can someone please enlighten me as to why these schools would rather have a "pretty" school rather than books, supplies and extra money to put for educational field trips or something more convenient for their future. (Here is a picture of what it used to look like when I was still going there; I can't seem to find a picture of what it looks like now, but I will post one up when I do)

Well, I see where you are coming from as far as spending more money on the looks of the school than the actual education supplies and such.. But I think its a positive thing that they put money into the school to make it nicer. You gotta take one step at a time, and if there is a nicer facility I would think that that would be one step to make learning and teaching better.. :P
