i dont think art is a neccessity, but i feel like it gives you a more diverse education. if a school offers art courses, it should require them for graduation, thats why they have them. However, the requirement should be kept to a minimun, so that it does not become a nuisance.
I think arts are important, but many students don't have space in their schedule for many arts classes. I think the 2 credits required is good, but 4 seems like a lot for a freshmen. Arts does help improve the brain, but not everyone is interestede.
Art is a subject that should always be involved with education. They go hand in hand. However Art should only be part of a balanced education and not half of the education such as taking 4 classes of art as a freshmen.
art, music, writing, danceing anything in the arts to get you inspiered and creative should be a subject when i was in 6th grade i did so bad in every subject i was still playing the clarinet it wasnt daily though and choir too it wasnt daily and when i got into 7th grade music changed my life i went to choir every day eaither for choir lessons or the whole school choir even band every day before school after school music was my life i was so focased on music but surprislgly i got A's in all my subjects because of music . I LOVE MUSIC!! it helps kids get through the bad and the good to take rejection and praise and make you feel like your important in life which helps with your acedemic stuff because you feel better about yourself.
that is true know matter how much i love music and it helps me in all my acedemic classes you have too love it you have to love what ever your doing then youll do better if sprots makes you happy go with sports if theter makes you hapy do theter because if you love what you do and your excited to go to school just for that subject like me in music every kid should want to go to school buy being in extra stuff to get you excited!
I definitely think that the arts should be incorporated in all learning needs to be required for graduation. People believe that "the arts" just involve artwork; which I'm sure you know is not the case. "The arts" simply means anything along the lines of music, dancing, theater, or artwork (sculpting, pottery, sketching, painting, etc.). It can incorporate the histories or the actual performance or any of the above. I know that I like having a music class or theater class to help provide a creative out let that helps me relax during the hectic school day. We definitely should see more of it.
yes , i agree with AreilJ because sports streesses me out but, music relaxes me when i get all cramed up with work i love music and it helps me with stress , school work, and looking at life in a different perspective . which maybe is the cause of suicide, teen pregnecy, drugs, drinking , and somking becuse they dont push the arts in the school teens get bored with school and when they dont do somthing they love that releses stress they get messed up . anything such as writing poetery or stories, theater, dancing ,music, and art could help with problems that no therepist can replace
kids involved in some sort of art usually hav an easier time in school.
also music is considered a universal language. every one around the world listens to it and enjoys it.
i think art is very important to hav in school and i think schools need to consider it as more of an academic subject.
I love writing short stories, or poems. And many times people just take art for drawing, panting, and just making things, thats what its like in my school. I am in 7th and I know you might take as why should I care, but writing to me is amazing, I let all my anger, sadness, and pain out by writing. And when I draw I don't have that feeling, I can't draw, I feel worthless when I see the others in my class who can do art have an amazing piece, they have been like that since first grade, there drawing were amazing and was noticed by everyone. When we had an art show we were only allowed to draw, and I hated that. You should pick what kind of art you want, the high school I want to go to, they have no course for the art of writing, they have have a chore, but believe me I can't sing for my life. But I think schools should start offering other things then the basic art, they should have something for music, like how it can movie you, or how music is such a major part of life. I finally realized this after reading a book and saw how music fits you, or how it helps during different situations. And with the art of writing, it should help with the base of your first chapter of a story, or how to write poems or get better at it. I think that schools should have different courses for art.
I'm currently a student at Kendall College of art and Design, I would have to say the arts are incredibly important. And not just painting, drawing, music, etc. But understand the basic principles in art are very important. They are skills that will last you a life time.
Understanding Aesthetics and the art of presentation can not only help you get a job, a grant, pitch an idea to a company, but they also teach you important skills related to problem solving and mental developmental issues.
Students who take art classes are more likely to be nominated for awards, they statistically do better on tests like the SATs and ACTs, have a higher confidence level, but generally go on to college and do well in life.
I think a lot of people take for-granted the important role arts play in everyday life.
I feel that arts are vital to an education, they allow us to express ourselves &* make friends with people who share our love of the arts, but I seriously doubt that a lack of the arts is why teens get pregnant.I feel this way because I am 16 &* pregnant.&* I was in a chorus class &* a theater class that I really enjoyed being in.The reason I'm not in them now is because I am getting my Diploma at a 3-hour Tech Center Class.
The arts are extremely important to basic education. Think of human evolution, it was not until we starting using artistic creativity that we started to fully realize our potential as human beings.
Art and art programs help to round out an individual, and allow an outlet for teenagers and youngsters who would feel repressed without a creative outlet.
“Good art is art that allows you to enter it from a variety of angles and to emerge with a variety of views.” - Mary Schmich
wats good
im a songwrighter and i make my own music i consider that art RIGHT!!!!!!!!
While I think 4 courses of art during freshman year is probably pushing it, I definitely think some for of art class should be a requirement for graduation. Art helps the mind grow, let's out or creative side, and eases or thought processes- all things that will eventually help us in bettering our world. Of course, I'm a pianist, so I may be a bit biased...
I think that Arts are important, and should be required in some form for all children. If a school does not require a child to participate in something art related (studio art, photography, graphic design, band, chorus, music theory, etc.) they should at least make these type of classes available. When I was in high school, each student was required to take 2 credits of a fine art. I don't think this was an issue for anyone, and most people really enjoyed it!
Arts are not only important, they should be required for a sound education! They are a vital component in any high school curriculum that facilitates students' growth. A curriculum of arts exposes students to a new field of opportunities and possibilities while it fosters the growth of self-developmental traits such as commitment and perseverance -- traits that are necessary for anything that one does when he/she gets out of high school.
That's my two cents :D

A bit of fragrance always clings to the hand that gives roses.
i think its good they do that. u r able to learn things some ppl would never learn and its free!
The arts are important. What we don't realize that even if you don't like actual art subjects, you are participating in art. Some people see Chemistry as an art, or Mathematics, or being able to memorize the names of the presidents. Art is about expressing yourself. It never says that it has to be through drawing or painting. People express themselves through invention, knowledge. I personally love art and would like it to stay in schools. Art is Art. Saying art isn't important is like saying Gym isn't important.
I think that art education should be an important part of early childhood education curriculum. If I hadn't gone to an Elementary school that focused on the arts I would have never been exposed to art. An appreciation for music and other types of art allows for students to become more creative, whether or not they choose to pursue the subject in their future years.
The arts are the crucial to human nature. Think of what life would be without them.
Art is definitely necessary to a sound education, in my opinion. However; I think that grading art is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard of. How can anyone possibly diminish anyone elses art to a grade? That seems completely ridiculous to me. Also,I don't think you should have to take art if you don't want to, but I don't think that you should have to take any subject if you don't want to.
Oh art is necessary to education (and that isn't just because I'm attending an art school for college). However, I think that it should be an elective once you hit high school. Not everyone is interested in it. That is how my high school was. My freshman year I took three classes, none until junior year where I took one, and then I took two my senior year.
My school was largely known for it's art students.
My favorite thing about art was this one simple thing, "Oh, you don't like it or you don't understand? That really sucks for you." That's what art is...It is different for everyone.
And it is like that with all forms of art, not just drawings and paintings, but performances, etc.
I believe that arts are more important for some people than others, but it should be introduced to everyone. My school is very math and science based, which are not strong subjects for myself, so I wish my school offered more art programs. On the other hand, the majority of my school enjoys the sciences, so those courses prioritize over art programs. My school only requires students to take one art course before graduation.
How much art education people need really depends on the person.
Arts involvement allows students to enhance their academic and social development outside typical classroom walls - they learn to work in groups, think creatively, problem solves, and follow-though with a project...
I think arts should also be offered to all students - not just those with a particular talent or background. We at Unified Theater believe all students with and without disabilities should be included in the performing arts.
