Should the government include prescription birth control in funding for insurance?

Back to 'HIV & Sexuality' forum.

There has been much controversy due to the fact that there is government funding for Viagra, but not for prescription birth control.

if there is funding for viagra, then there should definitely be some for birth control. birth control is a much greater issue than male sexual dysfunction

The fact that there is government funding for Viagra and not birth control for women is indicative of how important they think women are.

I think that the government should include birth control in funding for insurance, especially if they give funding for Viagra. The only thing that Viagra helps is erectile dysfunction in older men...whereas birth control helps to eliminate unplanned pregnancy. The teen-pregnancy rate in this country is out of the roof and stupid legislation like this helps to show you why, the people on capital hill would rather worry about the problems that they have to deal with like erectile dysfunction than to help one of the biggest issues that this country faces today.

I say that i agree, birth control should be paid for in insurance. Honestly, if we're paying for Viagra, pay for birth control because it is more important. Unplanned pregnancies are happening all the time and as a high school student I am always hearing about this girl or that girl who is pregnant at as young as 14 because they can't afford birth control or their parents wont get it for them or whatever the case. It's actually sad because half of those unplanned babies won't be born, they'll be murdered, (abortions)
Live to dream.

Until 2006, Medicaid covered Viagra even for rapists! Interesting fact, isn't it?

A large factor in our society is that birth control costs nearly thirty to fifty dollars a month, many women can’t afford these high of costs. The majority of the forty-five million uninsured in this country are women. Most generics contain only eighty percent of the ingredients/hormones that brand name birth controls possess and many insurance company policies mandate generic contraceptives. (135) That makes absolutely no sense! Poor and uninsured women are too often told “tsk tsk” for getting pregnant and not being able to financially care for the child, yet if they obtain an abortion that is wrong as well. Women deserve to have the ability to make a choice. Here is a simple solution, offer these women the effective, brand name contraceptives that they deserve! Now, that wasn’t so hard, was it?

Feminist-er

Are you aware Viagra is covered by many insurance plans? And how do you figure men alone are "footing the bill?" Plus, many women are on birth control for medical reasons, not for marirea penisului. It's not a "feminist" thing at all.
