Should High School Students Undergo Random Drug Test?

Back to 'Health & Fitness' forum.

What do you think about random drug testing in high schools on all students? Im doing a debate in school and would love to know what you think about it. I've already gotten input on what teachers say about it but, i would like to know what you think about it. I want to know what high school students think about it since they are in high school and they may be oblagated to drug testing. If their school does random drug testing.

I believe that students should go through random drug tests, simply because there are a lot of students who do drugs, and it's hurting them, even though they choose not to believe it.

So, totally, completey wrong. If there was an offense by a specific person then they should be asked to be tested. What would that be called a Drug Drill?

jessica.leigh2010,you have the right choose to believe that students should be checked for drugs. Others have the right to believe it is not hurting them. You can't control others. A lot of drugs are horrible and need to be stopped, but that is not every case.

It is as helper put it, absolutely wrong. It is NONE of a schools business if someone chooses to do drugs. Also like helper said, maybe if someone had a specific offense. At my school at the beginning of the year they pass out a paper for out parents to sign saying whether they wanted their child to have a drug test or not. No child should be subjected to that at school. Sometimes they even bring drug dogs and do backpack searches, my school has like 500 people. Don't tell me that's not absolutely ridiculous. ALSO what is the point of the drug test? They say the results are confidential. Jessica.leigh, most people know drugs aren't good for them, THAT'S WHY THEY LIKE IT. Random drug testing isn't going to stop drug use.

drug testing should not be allowed due to the fact that there are diffrences between the detectable periods of drugs. an example of which is the fact that marijuana is stored by the body within fat cells and can be detected up to 4weeks after it has been used, whilst drugs such as speed and ice only take up to 40 hours to fully degrade. this is unfair due to the fact that a student undergoing a "one time"experimentation can be expelled from a school rather than a student who is abusing drugs at a high level and perhaps even dealing drugs. there is also the argument towards students estimating or gaining prior knowledge of a drug test and ensuring they do not attend school or simply stop taking the drugs for a rather short perod, even though the tests are ment to be random. feel free to reply and expand on my idea...i appreciate constructive criticism.

i have to say that drugs and alcohol are definitely a growing problem only when it comes to performing an onslaught of ridiculous actions. but when it comes to intuition and inspiration, drugs and alcohol where even used by ancients such as my prophet, Jesus, Buddha and many other unlisted sources that have become irrelevant
due to the scare of it made back in 1954 when the Republic of Turkey was made.
I hope that you find my point quite clearly, though pe persistent and have hope for good, unbiased, ethical, and moralistic, for pure hearts have pure actions.

Dear Kumbikilla,

You make a rather good point, it would seem that you are attempting to remove drugs from the criminal and social scene and transfer drugs to a level in which they can be used to achive deep spiritual connection and enlightenment. (is this correct?)

there is one also a point towrads medicine in which the drug cocaine was removed from medicine in 1908 under the Proprietary and Patent Medicine Act. Modern studies have shown cocaine to have extractable elements which can boost the healing effects (as well as pain killing effects) in modern medicine.

the effect of drugs within school however are on a different level, the main concern towards drugs in school should not be their illegal use or their ability to attribute to violence but rather their addictive nature. the main purpose of education i believe is to allow students the ability to make choices and as a result grow and develop upon these choices and their results. the implementation of drugs at an early age should be the main focus, this is due to the fact that an under educated student may not have the peace of mind nor the mental fortitude to make an educated decision before undertaking drugs, this may lead to addiction and may result in bankruptcy or imprisonment.

i do belive in using drugs within medicine and i can understand the link between drugs and spirituality although my main concern is towards focusing upon the future of students.

i would like to expand this topic from drugs in schools and steer it towrads solutions for drugs in schools as well as drugs witin communities. (ie. the legalisation of marijuana and its effects)

i would like to hear from anyone upon this topic, please feel free to comment :)

I think that some high schoolers should be drug tested becasue there is alot of kids that do that and they are runing there life and there time to have the education that they need. they just dont understand how they are ruininf there lifes when they smoke or anything.

Drug Test is a great thang to do my high school does the test once a month sometimes two depends on when we do the frist one. It protect those who are in danger and not only are they in need for help but for all those who ae in use of the drugs will be pointed out and get more help. I love how we have the drug testing and I wish that ever school would do it so that everybody and anybody would be safe and protected.
