Smoking has already been banned in NY, DC, AZ, CA, and in over 10 other states. Several other states have partial smoking bans. Do you think that this is necessary? Should smoking be banned in all restaurants or only some?

i think that it is important that smoking be banned in public places because the smoker is not only effecting themselves, but the people around them as well.
Yes, i agree that smoking should be banned from many countries and also restaurants. It affects people and second hand smokes is more harmful to people then smoking. Also, kids that can't be around smoke are always around smoke everyday and so it's bad for them, us, and the people who smoke. Smoking should be banned forever, it's not necessary and it kills many people.
I agree too, smoking is really bad, it really bothers me, like lungs, head, and throat wise. I cant even be near a people who smoke, it is so bad for you. Your right about every where else , people should not smoke around young kids, and other people, and your right about kids who can't be around and are around it a lot, like i know a lot of people who smoke, I was at a party and the guy smoking really bothered me, i had to go inside my friends house. I was mad because every time I would see if he was done he wasn't! He smoked it to were he barley could hold it. They should ban smoking every were. After it like the next day my throat hurts ad feels weird. People should really see the damage it does to them and the people they are by and love.
Oh and I forgot too that all public places should ban smoking i agree with that. They should have certain places were they can smoke.
Some of my friends and I recently went around to local businesses and talked to the managers and employees about going smoke-free here in NC. Some were supportive but many are very skeptical about going smoke-free. Politicians also are slow on this issue here because NC has tobacco companies and tobacco farmers.
Many trusted studies suggests that restaurants, bars, and other places that ban smoking indoors see either an increase in business or business stays the same.
Recently, the Durham Bulls Athletic Park adopted a smoke free policy. As the home of the popular Bulls Minor League baseball team, thousands of fans go to these games and smoking was allowed. I would go to the games and see so many smokers and so many kids around. NOT COOL. They recently took a HUGE step and were one of the first to adopt a smoke-free policy. I am sure more families go to these games now that they are 100% smoke-free!

I agree that smoking should be banned. I don't think that (know matter how much I want to) that smoking will ever be able to be banned in countries because of the people who do smoke. I wish it could but think of the prohibition act and the mess that made. I cannot stand smoking and it should at least be banned in public places no one deserves to be punished for other peoples actions!
I think smoking should be banned in all resturants becasue people should be able to breath fresh air, and shouldnt be harmed by others unwillingly. We should be able to eat in a clean, fresh environment.
I strongly agree too!I HATE, HAATTTEE SMOKERS!
well, i think cities and restaurants should focus on the majority of people who would benefit from having smoke-free facilities instead of worrying about their own interest being hurt.
smoke free baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obviously, we are an educated people now when it comes to tobacco. The majority of people today want to go smoke-free. It's our legislators who are scared they won't make "everyone" happy. Write this down: You can't make everyone happy. Stop trying!
NO! Smoking shouldn't be permitted ANYWHERE! Not only does smoking hurt the smoker, but it also hurts people around them just as much!
I agree.
Smoking in public places, etc. truly does harm everyone else as well as the smoker.
I feel that smoking should not be banned in restaurants. Restaurants are private businesses and have the right to run the restaurant the way they want without Government interference.
I for one hate the smell of cigarette smoke, however, I still feel it should be up to the restaurant owners what they should allow in their restaurants.
If you're really concerned with your health don't go to restaurants that allow smoking. Period, end of story.
I think it goes both ways. I mean if you ban smoking then you lose customers but if you don't ban then you are putting the other customers in danger because most of them do not want to smell smoke or breathe in smoke especially if parents are celebrating with their kids.
wats good That is true but in a public place they usally make you smoke on the other side of the room away from other custermers

I don't think that smoking should be banned in restaurants because it's your choice if you want to smoke. What I do think should happen is that the restaurants should have section for non-smoking and smoking people like some do. I think in order too keep this idea going that there as to be a law where you can have two different sections and maybe smoke proof glass or something so people who are non-smokers don't have to be around people who do smoke.
This is coming from someone who does smoke:
I think there shouldn't be smoking in restaurants. Do you want all that second hand smoke around your child? Or even around your food. The smoke, actually I'm not sure what it is, floats around and it can stick to the walls, and discolor them.
My parents and I smoke. We used to smoke in the house. We noticed the walls getting yellow. We cleaned them, started smoking outside, and they are white all the time now.
Imagine a public place looking like that when it shouldn't.
