Should the United States boycott the Beijing Olympics?

Back to 'War, Peace & Politics' forum.

China is responsible for many recent human rights violations, including suppressing Tibet's strive for independence and supporting the Sudanese government despite the crisis in Darfur. The Chinese government has shown discrimination against those of African descent.

Now, with the Olympics approaching, countries such as the United States have the opportunity to apply pressure to China. Although the Olympics are traditionally a time to set aside global issues and unite, is it right to do so as people are being killed in Darfur or oppressed in Tibet?

although what china is doing is wrong, if we withdraw from the olympics, what are we doing to our athletes. these our people who have trained most of their life for this, and we are taking away their dream. im sure there are better ways that we can hurt china
