starving donkeys in mexico
Hi. I need help and ideas for a problem that has been going on in my community for years. I live in mexico in a beautyfull canyon and national park. Well I wouldnt call it that, but that is what the governer calls it. The canyon is more like a dump spot for unwanted animals. I have already started a dog shelter that I have had for 2 years now, but dogs are not the only animals in jeapordy. There is an evil man that lives in the canyon that has all types of domestic animals, donkeys, horses, cows, cats, dogs, and chikens. I have had a couple of run ins with this guy already. One time I tried to take his dying dog to the vet, another time I treid to talk him into letting me pay for the vet care of a donkey and her baby, he trully is twisted. He has no respect for life and could care less about his animals. I want to do something about the dying animals, mostly his donkeys, horses, and cows. I obviously do not have the space to keep a donkey but I need help. The donkeys are out in the open, exposed to cars, the weather, and cruel people. They have no food, no water, no shelter, and breed like rabbits, only making the problem bigger. They starve, dehydrate, get hit by cars, and break open garbage bags trying to find food, littering the beautyfull dessert. I have already called newpapers, written essays, gotten petitions, and sent in a formal letter to the state. My neighbors have talked to the governer and to animal rights organitations, but nothing is done. WHAT CAN I DO!?
I have no experience like yours, but what you are already doing to help these animals is amazing. Maybe you can try to get an organization outside of New mexico to help you. Writing letters and petitions is a good 1st step. Kepp up the good work!! :)
Hey, that's absolutely wonderful what you're trying to do. Even though nothing seems to be done now by the government or anything, you just got to keep up the great work. Try finding more organizations and definitely keep spreading the word around.
There is an animal society in Kanab, Utah called Best Friends Animal Society. Contact them and I'm sure they can help you out or at least tell you how to handle the situation. Here's their website: http://www.bestfriends.org/

Is ther any laws against pet cruelty? can you report the health of his animals and bring up their safety to the authorities? when i was little if someone had kittens or puppies i would make sure they were not mistreated by sneaking around and feeding them, some i found to be truly mistreated, that kitten i named perkey and have had her for 12 yrs and counting. she was phisicaly abused and i saved her. i want what you want. all animals to be treated as humans.some religions dont believe that animals have souls! wow stupid huh.take the donkey and its child, feed them and water them for a day and set them free.take his sick dog to the vet if you can get a hold of it without being seen. i would help you but i am in washington, in usa. sorry :)
also after readin your statement over again...if the government doesnt seem to care, take pictures and go into an office to talk to someone, that might be the step.
