Teardown of parks

My hometown is a small country town in Canada. I have lived here since I was born. One of the main fun things to do within our town is to play baseball. Recently, the city council decided that one of our baseball feilds needed to be torn down for a new recycling place where you can bring your bottles, paper, plastics, etc. This feild was used daily by the kids in our town and also by my own baseball team. We are now without a feild, leaving us without our past time of playing baseball. I understand that recycling is a great thing, but what are we to do without a feild? Was it completely necessary to tear down a park? What can I do now?

Wasn't there room elsewhere? I strongly believe in recycling, but tearing down a park is quite extravagant.

I know that trees give off oxygen, so that would be a terrible thing to do. Also animals need an environment too. It's already bad enough everybody doesn't use artificial Christmas Trees. They cut down real ones and take them from animals. How would people feel if they were in their home and then it just got knocked down? They could also build it in an empty lot, not somewhere that's already occupied.

Oh boo hoo people like real trees. Thats why theres christmas tree farms you know? Also, animals are not equal to people, we have rule over animals, however we also have the responsibility to preserve life and the natural balance. Don't loggers now have to plant new trees to replace the ones they cut down? (not sure but i think so) So should we. Go plant some trees and quit complaining. I do agree that they should not have torn down the park but hell, what can you do now?

hazelkamp.. I couldnt agree more, christmas trees are not grown out in the forest, 99% of them come from tree farms, all lined up in a roll, In oregon logging companies have to plant 5 trees for everyone 1 they cut down, they say there are more trees now in America then there was when George Washington was President. What are they teaching in school these days lol.

I would recommend speaking with your local legislator(s) or town/city council. Maybe there is another space that the town can use to create an even better field? Also, get in touch with others who are upset and look for new ideas and ways to recreate the field that is gone now, rather than only complain. Best of Luck!

I think its wrong for parks to be torn down in any case. They provide exercise and some even have a lot of unforgettable memories.
