The facts that will truly haunt you

Some people say that hunger and poverty are not a big issue. These facts however, are a HUGE ISSUE.
-a child living with malnutrition is 6 inches shorter and 50 pounds lighter then a child that is well nourished.
-In Haiti there is one hospital bed for every 10,000 people.
-an average income is around .60 cents per day.
-Most people don't realize and comprehend how lucky they are to be well nourished and to have a full meal on their plate. It's true. Most people don't understand that every time they say that they are STARVING, they are lying. I just don't think it's fair.

I sponsor a love child from Haiti, and the first time I saw the statistics, I cried.
People do not know, and sometimes are afriad to know the truth about hunger, because then they would feel compelled to do something about it.
Many people don't have enough money to pay for medicine when they are sick and the terrible thing is they were walking distance from medicine that could cure them but since they have no money they died from a preventable disease. It is disgusting that some people have so much money that they pay tens of thousands of dollars for things they don't need when someone could have been saved if they had just gave that person ten dollars so they could see a doctor.
That's not fair. I totally agree with this. Doesn't the government care?!?
I don't see why the government is still blind of what is happening. During elections, they give millions to people for them to be elected. But when they get elected for the position, all their promises go to waste. They're stupid hypocrites and they need to experience for themselves what hunger really is. Why don't they do something about poverty? Oh, yeah, because they know it and they are the ones who cause it. They steal money from the government for them to be rich. Lousy government officials...
I totally agree.. especially where government officials are so corrupt that they don't even care about their own people.
I went to Haiti just last week, and I didn't want to leave. It's very true that people there need help. I say the most practical way is mission groups like the one I went with. To donate money alone means it will just get intercepted and pocketed by the 5% wealthy leaders, but to go there and interact on an individual level, weed out the noble from the corrupt, and give to the ones you know will bring about change, that's the way to help Haiti.
I raised over 1,000 dollars in a week just by asking all my friends and professors to donate ($719 for a plane ticket, the rest for trip supplies), so it is possible. Not easy, but possible.
I encourage anyone who reads this to rally together a group and go experience the suffering in Haiti and meet the amazing people there, many of them I now consider friends, who survive.
I have contacts to people that can help if you want them.
Here's some other facts I picked up
Average life expectancy: Mid 40s
Average calorie intake: 200 calories a day.
the most f-ed up thing about this is, people do know. They just don't care.
WE have tons of homeless and uninsured people right here in america, and other well to do countries, yet nobody does a damn thing for them.
There are children dying here, simply cause their parents couldn't afford that one doctors bill- or didn't have enough to get them medicine for a really bad cold.
Its sad but true, but really I feel we do more for people in other countries then we do for fellow people at times. Not trying to judge anyone, but seriously- take a real look around next time. Go to that run of the mill side of town, we got towns living like 3rd world parts of the world right in our backyards.
Hey everyone,
My name is Brian Keleman and I plan on running for mayor of Santa Ana in Fall of 2010 and the statistics really shock me whenever I look into poverty and starvation. I plan on becoming one of Santa Ana's youngest mayors and I'm sure the fact that I'm still a senior in high school campaigning for a big government position will make some media point their lenses my way. And as a result, I would love to use the position I am to make a platform for education and assistance towards poverty. I would really appreciete any of your support on how to help persons living in poverty within my community and eventually when I gain enough support I could help others in dire need of assistance. I see that a lot of the postings show discontent with our current politicians and I wanted to show my community and the world that we as a youth can do something to turn around the current system of politics that runs our society.
I'm the captain of my debate team at La Quinta High School and this year's topic is substantially providing social services to persons living in poverty in the United States. I really enjoy debating and its something that has become a lifestyle for me, but eventually I came to the conclusion that solving for poverty doesn't stop at just debating about it, it's something that we need to solve by actually doing something, so to end this comment,I'd really appreciete it if any of you could send me emails on how to take a step in the direction of solving poverty in Santa Ana. My email is BrianKeleman01@yahoo.com. Anyone who emails me will get a response within 10 days of having the message sent. Thank you.
we have tons of unisured people right here!!! sure we have millions but 75% of them are either illegal emmigrents or people between the ages of 18 to 29 years old and normally dont require medical coverage, and the our current govt here is not going to help things, The uninsured can go to ANY Hospital in america to get medical treatment NOW, This is a known fact, look in the emergency waiting rooms before we blame our system, And i want the name of any child in america that is starving or cant get medical coverage and i will show you a parent that abuses their child, we have a food stamp program, school lunch program, state chips program.
I completely agree with your points, and would love to hear where you got your facts. If you could list websites, that would be awesome! Thanks!
Hunger and poverty are only minor problems in a much bigger situation !!!
You are brainwashed to think that you need money to get what you want/need, but do you put money in the ground to grow an apple tree?
We need to rebuild our society so that we can supply the demands of every single person and it doesn't have to cost money...food, water and shelter should be sufficient.
Hi everyone! I am so glad that everyone is reacting this way. If you go to my page, i created a project in which you can help out these homeless people. I know in your hearts that you can all help out. Even so, you can use this idea to help throughout the country. Can I count on you?
Thanks :)

The kids in Haiti have tp eat cakes made out of dirt and wter just to stop their stomaches from hurting. Think about that next time you eat a big mac.
I agree with your point of view 100% and i wish the government would'nt be so addicted to war and waste of money. I wish they would be more concerned and involved with the massive amount of people going hungry and homeless.

It is true that we have a hunger and homeless problem right here in the US. It is even true that we have social security, foodstamps, and other programs that aid people but those programs cannot help everyone. If you don't have a job you cannot get cash assistance only foodstamps. If you don't find a job soon after that, you can get kicked off of foodstamps. Food banks only have so much food to give away and there are not shelters in most of the small towns in the United states. The shelters that are there are often overfilled and they have to turn people away. I do believe that solving the problem starts at home. I just did a food drive with Phi Theta Kappa at my college and I am sure the over 2,000 items we collected will be used up by the end of the holidays. It is terrible that this is what it has come to.
This knowledge i've been struck with has been haunting me for weeks and i ned everyone to know. Government should start by separating the currency from country based, to where the government has all the paper global currency (dollars, yen, euros, etc.) and all the citizens have a new currency that is completely digital and hack proof.
Then instead of having stockholders and company buyers, have the government as the sole owner of all businesses to set an extremely reasonable price on all goods for the people (such as all bread around the country is back to being only 1 dollar since people have digital money).
Have a pyramid system of a business to where all CEO's and top bosses country wide receive a salary of 365,000 digital dollars and the workers at the bottom of the pyramid have salaries of $36,500 ($100-$1000/day). Any profit the company itself makes from the people buying their goods with digital dollars (which I will now call "credits") will be transferred to the company's headquarters and be used for the sole purpose of expanding their business or enhancing their product. When the company headquarters choose to expand, a team of government construction crews will immediately begin building the new store where the headquarters desire, while the government takes the company’s saved up credits. Since the government has all the country's globally worthful money (backed by gold) for the sole purpose of international trade, it will have no need for the digital credits and can simply erase them. And to add on, since the USA government will collect all the dollars from the citizens in exchange for credits, they can use all collected money to pay off needy debts, thus the economy will grow, taxes will not exist, and simply print more money to buy needed trades (steel, wood, food, etc.) to use for urbanization.
In means of urbanization to take place, all people country-wide need to gather together to make a country full of spread out cities with major farms in between each every city for crops, of course (sort of like a land full of tribes, not a distribution of people).
Farms will be owned by the government, and the people willing to nurture the crops will be paid handsomely for their work and be provided housing until they can save up enough credits to get the government to build them a house (with the government construction crew, and it will probably only take a year to do so).
Since people nation-wide will be either grouped together in large cities, or super spread about in between farmlands, the next step is the elimination of vehicles by a nation-wide system of super-fast trains and trolleys, and the best part is that the transport is free (ask me for explanation /diagram of my national bullet train highway). Any help needed for immediate transfer of farmers to a nearby city, helicopter air-life transport will be provided.
After the completion of all these tasks, I could take the idea before the united nations (with the help of translators) to go global, and when people understand the genius behind the idea, then the final objective of global disarmament will be laid upon the table and will be considered, thus I have created a world full of peace and advancement.
No weapons, the government has its own money to spend on other governments, the people have their own tax free digital money to spend and receive at no cost against the government. Since farming and construction will be huge, people won’t need a great education to make a lot of money, thus crime will plummet due to a low demand of money and due to a plateau on how much a person could ever make (max. $365,000/year for each person in 1 business). Governmental corruption and bribery will be nonexistent. People won’t be so dependent on cars anymore due to the free super-fast national train highway, which will take carpooling to a new level. It will also eliminate wreckage from drunk drivers and accidents since they run on rails, while decreasing air pollution exponentially. Welcome to my utopia.
