The issue of self confidence amongst young women today
I am almost 16 years old and attend an all girls private Catholic High School. Over the course my 3 years at an all girls school I have noticed a major issue in our society that suprisingly, has recieved little efforts or attention to combat it. This poison filtering in the minds of young girls everywhere is low self confidence. Although seemingly trite, there are many causes for this issue, and it has impacted our society in a severely negative way. I feel like the promblem of drastic increases in low self esteem amongst young women has become uncontrolable. It has honesly become an unheard of blessing to love yourself and exert confidence. I do not know any young women or role models of my age who posses undeniable confidence. This, i hope you agree, is a problem, and im prepared to find a solution.

It's a HUGE problem at my school the guys underestimate the girls, most of our male teachers are biased toward the male population and guys think us women are weak so they get their *touchy feely* on most of the girls who seem helpless (popular girls let them. I am absolutley with you on this!
I agree 100%.I,myself suffered many image issues in 6th grade when my parents got divorced.I turned to food to make myself feel better,but it just made me feel worse because I was constantly looked down upon &* people would laugh at me for being overweight.They didn't realize how depressed I was,&* eventually,I turned suicidal.When my family saw what I was going through,they immediately tried to change my point of view.They reassured me &* made me feel like I mattered &* that no matter what anyone said to me,I was still beautiful.I gradually accepted more help from very close friends &* family,&* lost all the weight that i had gained.And by the time I was in 10th grade,I was happy with the person I was becoming.
i know what you mean about the *touchy feely* issue. the principal and administration are completely unaware! i totally agree with you on everything you said. are you sure we dont go to the same school? (lol)
Yeah guys think that just because we're girls it means that they can touch us as if we want to be touched. Popular girls let dudes feel on them because they think if they say no they will think they are losers. They shouldn't put themselves in that position, its wrong and its telling other girls to let guys touch them or you won't be in the "in-crowd"
I'm with you completely and I am prepared to help you do something about it. I hate seeing girls feeling bad about themselves and seeing others take advantage of that. I despise living in a male dominated world where a woman's job is to 'cook and clean and make babies'
i think your all focusing on the problems that are caused/derived from this. and it's seeming like your getting further and further away from the actual issue at hand and more toward the reproductions of it. if your going to talk about self-confidence issues i think we need to address that the general public is stupid as far as their ability to distinguish reality from exaggerated/altered reality to complete fantasy. so when thoes who are unaware/uneducated try to educate the younger ones we get an even less aware and less educated generation. like making a copy of a copy. the more you make the less like the original it's likely to be. we also can not depend on the government/education system to educate us in these matters (not that they could). we must instead do our own research and make our own decisions. you can not trust any source completely so combine the information of many. then decide what you deem as be healthy or the right size or look. at that point you will be comfortable with yourself and only try to improve your self because you want to at that point you will become more self confident.
i'm ready to change that too. i have been struggling with my self-essteem since about the sixth grade. the guys mainly picked on me because i was chubby and wore glasses and i started going bulimic. i think the whole self-essteem situation comes from the media (t.v.,magazines,music videos, etc.)
i feel like if u r a woman it is twice as hard in this world. if u arent confident u will be torn down. its probably the media's fault for why we feel like this and its very sad. at my school im too skinny.im a size 1. ive always struggled with my weight becuz im short and small. the guys at my school like a girl who's "thick." i dont know what i am.
it is a HUGE problem. the kind of problem that can possibly cause someone to die. not being self confident can cause eating disorders, drug addictions, alcohol abuse...etc.. it is a horrible problem that women are not self confident with who they are, that they don't have good self esteem. this is kinda off topic but not really haha anyway when you think about yourself or look at yourself in a mirror you look, or think about the bad things. when you are looking at other people you notice all the good things. i am not saying you should switch those things i mean think about the good thing about yourself that is good but don't think about the bad things about other people cause that isn't the answer. but what you should do is each morning when you look in the mirror compliment something about yourself. say i am pretty or i care about my friends or family and that is great..etc anything good just say it every morning and pretty soon you will start to believe it
I do not agree with you that there are not any good role models. Even though not everyone likes Disney, most Disney stars (Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, ect.)are amazing role models. Also Taylor Swift and Beyonce as well. There are so many others as well! I do agree though that this is a problem. I agree. I have seen a friend go through an experience such as this, and now she is barely consolable. I wish there were something we could do. Low self confidence can really fry brain cells.

Finally, someone who agrees. Girls think inside the box. I get everyone wants to look pretty and the whole "Girls are as good as guys" but if we really are we need to show it. A girl displays every chance she gets to show off her body, to stay away form being smart, and to show another girl she's ready to fight over a guy. It's really bogus. Don't fight over a guy, fight over what's right. Yeah I'm in Highschool too but I'm a freshie. Everybody here walks around in booty shorts and PINk clothing. I don't believe there's anything wrong with it but it takes away individuality. The girls here are sooo low self esteemed that they're scared to standout. Nobody wants to be smart, join club, scholarships or anything. It's terrible. All talk is boy talk. I hate it.
