What do we do about Iran?
For over a week, the Iranian government has been harming, imprisoning, and killing many of the Iranian people simply because they are protesting and speaking out against the government. The Iranian people are protesting the re-election of President Ahmadinejad, which was clearly rigged. Not only are the people being denied their right to freedom of speech, they are being killed for excersizing that right.
The reason I'm starting this forum is because I want to know-what can WE do about this? How can we help the Iranian people? How can we put Ahmadinejad and the government in its place?
I think it's pretty clear that Obama isn't going to interfere with this issue(and I don't intend for this to be a form where we defend or criticize his actions). That is why WE THE PEOPLE have to do something, I just don't know what that something is.
SO WHAT CAN WE DO?

Obama isnt going to do anything, he has no guts, Hillary has come out and said talks are going no where, and now Iran has the missles to bomb many of our bases and Isreal.
THe American public cannot do anything to stop Iran unless you want to hire some hitmen, We vote a for a president to PROTECT US that is the number 1 job of the federal goverment.
So like Clinton we wont do anything to these litte dictators until they attack us or our allies, innocent people WILL DIE before Obama does anything, great leadership!!!!!!
Well, war is one option but it is not a really good one. If the US and NATO were not involved in Iraq and Afghanistan, then there could be a way of creating an international coalition and to attack Iran. However, with the heavy costs, both economic and death tolls, of the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, the uncertainty of the future there, and the growing criticism of the US make the option of another war practically impossible. Besides, Iran has an organized, large, and relatively prepared military. As well, the Iranian landscape is difficult and mountainous. So fighting against Iran might be a serious operation that can have both local and international consequences.
A second option, which in my opinion is more possible, is supporting the various Iranian opposition groups. The regime in Iran is widely criticized and a large portion of the population is dissatisfied with it. The recent demonstration was a good evidence for that. Instead of invading Iran, it might be much better to let the people there to formulate their own political and social order and to help them with it. It is known in history that dictators and oppressive regimes were eventually overthrown by their own people because these failed to fulfill their promised goals. I believe that the Iranian people will eventually overthrow the regime of the Ayatollahs and the country will open itself to a new and better future. In the past, and before the revolution of 1979, Iran was a prosperous country that had good relationship with the rest of the world, and I think that the people there still want their country to be the way it was.
