What if the only books kids ever had were the ones at school? VOTE to Do Something!
Imagine that the only books that you ever had were the ones from school: heavy textbooks, dogeared paperbacks, and laborious novels. There would be no incentive to lose yourself in a book...come to think of it maybe that's why so many books are lost at school each year! Anyway, it would be grim. My Own Book is working on making a difference; one child, one book at a time. We visit less fortunate K-3rd graders coming from homes where books are often not available. We read a story aloud and make the children laugh, we tell about the public library and to oohs and ahs we show off our library cards. The best part of the whole event is when we show the kids tables stacked high with bright shiny brand new books and let them each choose a book of their very own. The children's eyes light up with delight- sometimes the kids zoom in and grab a book right away, others study the options carefully weighing their choices. This is a big deal you see- the opportunity to have a book of their very own, brand new. We add a bookplate with their name on it to each book and leave them with smiles on their faces and joy in our hearts.

i cant think about that passimg out. that would totally suck.
That is a great thing you are doing. People under-estimate literature, when really, a book is like the world at your fingertips.
And dosomethig:
Don't be rude!
