What is our goal?
The goal for each school is to collect 100 pieces of sports equipment. Each team will need to strategize about where to collect and store your equipment during the course of the Sports Equipment Drive. Who will be using all of this equipment when the campaign is over?
All equipment collected during the course of the campaign will be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. With over 4,000 Clubs in across the country, the Boys & Girls Clubs offer many sports and recreation programs to deserving young athletes every day. By pitching in and participating in our Sports Equipment Drive, you’re giving the gift of athletics to the kids who need it most! What if we collect less than 100 pieces of sports gear?
If you collect less that 100 pieces of sports equipment, your Boys & Girls Club will still be thrilled to use whatever you can contribute. Use our club locator to find the club nearest you! Where do I take the equipment?
The Boys & Girls Clubs of America will be accepting the new and gently-used sports equipment you collect during the campaign. You can make as many trips as you’d like--the more you collect, the better! In some cases, your local Boys & Girls Club might be willing to pick up the equipment from your school or organization’s location--be sure to use our Club locator [link] to find the location nearest you and contact them to make sure that they can accept donations. Make sure to ask if they’re able to offer pick-up service as well! Bring along the supplied letter from our action kit when handing in equipment so your local Boys & Girls Club knows a bit more about the campaign. They love that stuff. What kind of sports equipment are you looking for?
All new and gently-used equipment--for all sports--will be accepted. Think baseball and softball bats, balls of all kinds, gloves, mitts, rackets, and more! Unfortunately, we won’t be able to accept sports apparel--that means no cleats, shoes of any kind, hats, jerseys, shorts, etc. or heavy equipment, such as free weights. Yes! Each school will have a dedicated Do Something teammate to offer advice and encouragement and to answer any questions. Email us at sports@dosomething.org anytime. How can I win one of these awesome campaign scholarships?
Everyone who takes action in the campaign and reports back will be eligible for one of our $500 campaign scholarships. Recipients will be determined by DoSomething.org’s Scholarships Team. Please visit our Campaign Scholarships FAQ section for more info.
