The first thing we did was get the varsity football coah to allow us to use the Trojan Football team to sponsor the project. he enusiastically agreed. Then we got the principal to announce it over the PA everyday during the two week drive. He was very enthusiastic and really supported the drive. We also put a huge bin in the front office of the school which we had to empty three times during the two week period.
We also announced the equipment drive during two JV football games and two Varsity football games and had a big turnout. We asked for volunteers and gave out flyers from the announcers booth and the concession stand. We also put up flyers throughout the school and handed flyers out during school. Our teachers were very helpful and fully supported the effort.
We also used social media and posted it on Facebook and Twitter and gave constant updates on the project page online. We texted all our friends and got our parents to text and call their friends as well.
This project was very fun.
Yes. I think most importantly, it felt good to give and do something for others. I personally am blessed to have just about eveything I ever wanted. I know that other kids are not nearly as lucky as I am and I should do more to help those in need. This made me and all my friends who helped feel good inside. I wish I could be there when the kids get this stuff to play with. I can't wait to start a new project and I have already talked to a bunch of other kids and they want to start projects too. How awesome is DoSomething.org? Very!
