Teens for Safe Cosmetics

*MISSION* A Coalition Led by Passionate Young Women: Our mission is to educate the public about existing toxic chemicals found in cosmetics and personal care products, to advocate for legislation that protects our right to health and to inspire teens across the nation to work together and create change within their communities. In collaboration with the National Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, teen campaign members played a key role in the passage of SB484, The California Safe Cosmetics Act in October of 2005.

Safe Rides

Alocohol related accidents is the number one cause death to teenagers. Over 3,500 teenagers are killed, and over 85,000 injured in alcohol related accidents each year. Some are innocent bystanters and some direct causes. Safe rides is a program that offers teenagers a sober ride home. If a teenager does not feel capable of driving, he/she need only call safe rides and someone will come and pick them up, and drive them home.

Students Against Destructive Decisions

Students Against Destructive Decisions fundraises for and puts on safety and awareness events. We help fundraise for Safe and Sober Grad Night, Every 15 Minutes, Safe Drivers programs, and school based party alternatives such as monthly movie and game nights.

Helping New York's Women Feel Safe

I am currently a college student in Brooklyn, New York. As is often the case in Brooklyn and Manhattan, unless you have money, it is difficult to get into a reasonable neighborhood to live in. I have been self-supported for quite some time now, and have always lived in interesting neighborhoods, to say the least. I never truly felt threatened until an occurance that took place last December. I was coming home from my job late at night. Naturally, as a waitress, I usually got out of work around 1 or 2 in the morning on weekends.

Life vs. Death Safe Driving Campaign

My idea to promote safer driving among teens through a series of posters that can be put up around schools. These posters will provide certain scenarios that are common among teen drivers in today's world, such as talking on your cell phone, texting, eating or drinking, putting on your make-up, etc. while driving. They will basically show the worst case scenario: life vs. death. The idea is that if you do these things while driving, you are putting your life on the line.

Smart Driving Project

If I were to receive funding for this project I would commit to the following in this order: 1. Recruit volunteers interested in having fun while promoting safe driving habits 2. Acquire an array of gaming systems from the volunteers. The gaming systems will support the driving simulations. 3. The day before the project I will buy lots of chips and dip as snacks. 4. During the car driving simulations I will order sufficient pizza to feed the volunteers and participants.
