Iraqi Hope By TakePride

Generation Iraq ----- Generation Iraq is one of the few Western charities still operating in Iraq. It was founded in 2006 by a remarkable woman named Tamara Quinn. Tamara is an Iraqi-American who almost immediately after the fall of Baghdad got on a plane and traveled to Iraq for the first time in 30 years to see if she could help Iraqis recover from the war and decades of oppression under Saddam Hussein. While there, Tamara co-founded a women’s rights organization, worked with the Coalition Provisional Authority, and over time, developed a special interest in assisting Iraqi children.

Changes for Congo's Children "Our Rights, Their Rights, Human Rights"

A group of students at Health Careers Academy is working very hard to promote awareness of the human rights violations of children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Africa. Children in the DRC are being forced into the army, raped, killed, or have their families killed. As human rights leaders, students at HCa are joining forces with Christian Mukosa, a Human Rights Leader from the DRC. Together they are helping the child soldiers in the DRC to be reintegrated into their communities.

Schools 4 Schools Club - Invisible Children

I started this club at my school after hearing about Invsible Children at my old school. The program has finished, but during the club season we raised money for children in Uganda that couldn't go to school because it was run down, the books and computers were too expensive, and there wasn't any clean water. We raised a little of $1,000 by sitting in front of grocery stores asking for donations, gift wrapping, and selling scarves, cookies, and water.

Veterans and Troops End the War in Iraq

"Power concedes nothing without demand... Those who want change without struggle want crops without plowing up the ground..." These are the powerful, relevant and resonant words of Frederick Douglas, one of history's most acclaimed and respected activists. As a leading abolitionist, Douglas knew how humanity progressed toward justice, how liberty was wrought from tyranny and how people must dare to stand courageously on principle. Our project seeks to apply Douglas' wisdom to end the War in Iraq, the organization I help to lead is called Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW).

Grissom Invisible Children

Since October, a club at my school, Invisible Children United, of which I am an officer, has been working to raise money to aide the crisis in Uganda. My primary responsibility in the club has been to plan, organize, and implement our many fundraising events. For twenty years, a civil war has torn Northern Uganda apart, resulting in 1.5 million people displaced into camps, and a student to teacher ratio of 300 to 1, and the endless persecution of the Acholi people.

Toys 4 Peace

Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world; while the media covers it, it still remains forgotten. Quite recently, Africa has obtained a lot of aid and media coverage for AIDS virus, Darfur, poverty, ect. Yet Afghanistan remains in a shadow, only shown on today's media for terrorism. The children of Afghanistan suffer from not only a poor country, but one stuck in the center of a deadly war. They've grown up to the sound of gunshots and bombs, and to the feeling of fear. Many themselves have been caught in a bombing or shooting, and now suffer life damage.
