1st Annual Young Women's Day, Health and Fitness Expo

You Go Girl Go Empowerment Forums engages inner-city, at-risk young women in panel discussions ranging from social in justice, lack of privilege, education, careers, health, youth involvement, employment and economic empowerment. The need is for at-risk young girls to be connected and see positive images of women, so they don’t get pregnant, drop out of school or become a victim of the street. Our core issues are teen pregnancy, violence, and self-esteem. We promote self-love, self-respect and self-determination.

Upon learning of the Do Something Grant, I knew instantly I wanted to apply and take advantage of this opportunity. I am very passionate about international development issues and challenges (especially those regarding the broad fields of health, education/awareness, and basic needs such as food safety and sanitation).

Health Advocacy Program (HAP)

Background :
Currently there is a health crisis facing our country’s youth. Poor health habits in diet and exercise are contributing to a rising trend in obesity that increases the risk for cardiovascular disease and threatens to seriously shorten life expectancy. Moreover, there is growing evidence that the burden of disease falls disproportionately on both minorities and the economically poor. Health Advocacy Program aims to address this growing problem by empowering youth with the knowledge and skills to be proactive about their health through good nutrition and physical exercise.

Starting Smart

The Starting Smart program has one main goal and purpose, to educate today's youth about proper diet and healthy living. Childhood Obesity and Diabetes is a growing issue throughout the United States and it will continue to be a problem is proper intervention is not enacted. Educating the children of today will lead to a healthier generation tomorrow and hopefully continued knowledge of how to live a balanced healthy life.
