Superstar Madonna wows us with her new role as Producer, Writer, and Narrator of her feature documentary "I Am Because We Are," which she premiered this past weekend at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.

CGG checked out the film, which opens with Archbishop Desmond Tuto proclaiming "I am because we are," or "Ubuntu," an idea present in African spirituality which means that we only exist because of each other, and that we are all connected in community, health and faith.

It follows the adventures of five sisters, ages of 7 to 21 as they travel across the US, Africa, and South America talking to young people about their dreams and visions for themselves and the world. Hi my name is Malcolm Mays and I'm a young filmmaker who's being presented the oppurtuniy to create his first full length feature film. The subject matter of my film is about my personal dealings with the violent racial tensions between Black and Latino youth in the Los Angeles school systems and its surrounding communities. This tension has now became a serious problem in the life of the youth of not only LA but all over America's poverty stricken neighborhoods.

Enter Erica Basco and Yokie Bertos. We're two high school with a passion for three major things: Social Change/Activism, Working with and leading teams of people, and film. It just so happens that these three things tie into each other about as perfectly as possible. The ability of film to carry and convey a message is virtually undebatable. Film captivates audiences, and opens their eyes to what ever message that film happens to be conveying. Erica and I, we have a message to get out. Film is just the way to do that.
