Located in Southern Westchester County, Mount Vernon, NY is my hometown. I did not go to public schools in the city, but I have understood from a young age the connection between an effective school system and a successful community. Mount Vernon's schools are facing some challenges in the upcoming school year because the budget was voted down twice by voters. Attached to the budget was a NYS Bond that would have provided capital money for repairs and improvements. Mount Vernon residents are tired of poor school system performance, and are also frustrated with the heavy dependence on property taxes to improve the failing schools. This is why the budget was voted down twice. But other than an effort by the new mayor to save the sports programs, which were cut with the current contingency budget, no one has stepped up to say how they are going to help students do better at being students. Sports are a great supplement to the life of a child, but these students need help reading and writing. The Spanish-speaking community is growing, and while most of my hometown seems up in arms about the lack of sports, I am frustrated. I cannot just sit back and fail students in my community. I don't think I can save all 10,000 of them, but if in one school, we can find 15 students, then that's 15 students who will do better. Then we mentor them informally the next year while we work with 15 more. It's a small step, but it's a step, and I think it will inspire more people to do something about the situation.

The problem I am trying to solve is that of the epidemic of apathy toward academic success. Many of my high school peers value their academics significantly lower than sports, girls, partying, and other things. While those things are fun, academic success is one of the most powerful investments in their future. I want to make balanced academic achievement once again a priority for my generation.

The all-female, majority black public school (grades seven to twelve) in North Philadelphia can be transformed into a proud and excellent institution that improves the communities, creates peaceful living, and cultivates leaders in North Philadelphia. This change will occur when the students are exposed to female leaders and professionals and convinced that they are essential community citizens. The Young Women’s Leadership School (TYWLS) seeks to expose the students to exceptional leaders, scholar, artist, and professionals in a motivational and leadership speaker series. The mission and motto at TYWLS is for students to learn today so that they can be leaders tomorrow. To truly cultivate leadership qualities students need to be exposed to adults who can inspire and encourage them to be great and successful. Thus distinguished artists and musicians, female professional athletes, political activists, business leaders, elected officials, professionals, and writers will attend a monthly school-wide assembly in addition to a smaller group conversation with relevant classes. These discussions, lessons, and motivational speeches will allow the students to experience the lives of successful adults and expose the young female leaders-in-training to positive role models so the young females can aspire to be successful leaders and contributing citizens in their communities.

Arts for tots is a non-profit organization created to help underpriveledged children get exposed to the arts. such as dance, theatre, music and art.

an esacpe for kids to get away from their lives and have fun with something that they like to do.subcategories will bw given in the different fields of study such as if the kids wanted to try ballet they could. all forms of arts will their from different forms of writing to paintings and their will be a showcase of all their work at the end of the year. where some procedes will go to better the organization and the other will go to charity.

the kids will make their own invitations and give it their families so that its more personal.i want to give the kids more to experience in their lives and i want ti make a change in them to open their eyes to a better world and free their creative minds.

Irvington High School Do Something Club School is Cool Project: The main goal of this project is to target young people who are losing interest in their academics when they enter High School to give them the motivation and the insights on their futures. We have in mind to target freshmen. Studies have shown that within 3 weeks into the first year of high school has a big impact on the students. Either most students feel unmotivated due to the difference between their past academic lives or some feel motivated to keep going. Since high School is much tougher than other schooling, it creates a bigger impact in the students’ lives. In the other hand, there are students who are the top students of every class, but they reach a point where they feel burned out or not happy with their work then they lose the interest in what they once interest had. There are various types of students with different mindsets, but what they all have in common is that they forget about how important it is to graduate and pursue high studies. Most students are not able understand the value of their future lives since they are fine now; however, without knowing that, they lose the understanding of the importance of education and graduating and doing something productive with their lives. As a club, we would like to represent ourselves to create that change within their minds. It will be challenge however; we have planned few ways to execute this plan, which will create significance in them. The following explains some of the best plans and that we have as a club decided to do:
1. Create about 3 assemblies in the course of a school year. ( It will be a complete show )

2. During the Freshmen Orientation, make a Professional video to present.

3. As students, we can create that relation with the audience in which they will be able o relate themselves to.

4. Within the club, many motivated students have experienced the time in their life where they felt like quitting, but they drove themselves to success in life. Get them to speak at assemblies.

5. Work with the city council to present this to a city

6. Hold workshops to raise the interest in specific fields of careers (ex. Math, Science) many students are losing interest in those areas. We plan to achieve this as we build on our club. We will not be able to start off with everything. We will slowly build on what we can do.

7. Since this is a broad idea (Success) we plan to branch off with parts that specify into certain career interest. We have all these goals to achieve in getting the project to a successful status.

This project is not a project we as a club wish to finish and be done with within a one year span. We plan to keep this going for as long as possible. We have talked to our schools principle and teachers and they are excited for this project. They are all very supportive of this club and the project. This will not only improve the school’s students but it will create a difference in those lives who hated school once. That is the goal of our project. We want to create a big change in peoples’ lives, which they can remember in their life, through this.

Financial prosperity remains an allusive dream for many young Americans. I am working on a pilot program that will help teenagers from lower income families learn business and financial skills. The project will involve placing youth in leadership positions of small corporations established just for this purpose. Successful business leaders will help guide students through the entire business cycle. Participants will learn hands-on how businesses operate and experience an unparalleled level of responsibility. This training ground is the first step in facilitating the financial success of America’s youth. Upon completion of the program, people will be eligible for microfinance loans that can be used to start their own businesses with the continued assistance of skilled mentors. This program should inspire teenagers and give them the necessary skills to achieve success. America’s youth can attain financial prosperity; they just need some help and encouragement to realize their full potential.
