Project Description

Scholarship KIDS (Keeping Ideas in Debt Solutions) is a campus based organization founded at Clark Atlanta University. I created this organization because of the constant struggle of students to not only pay for school their first year but also maintain their attendance by becoming financially equipped. I plan on continuining to keep students in school by helping them find ways to absolve debt and obtain scholarships and grants. My primary advisor for this organization is Ms. Monica Bussey who works in the Financial Aid office at Clark Atlanta University as the Scholarship Coordinator. My secondary advisor is Dr. Dennis Kimbro, author of Think and Grow Rich, and First Year Student Seminar instructor. I have already constrcuted a tenative schedule for next school year of 2008-2009 that will detail all of the plans I have in store.

Project Description

Sino Scholar is a non-profit project supported by a Michigan high school club, Sino Club. We seek to lend a hand to those half-way around the world by supporting children in poverty to obtain opportunities to go to school. In the summer 2007, we gave $25 to two students each, making them able to attend school for the entire year! After seeing the impact of that small sum, we hope to expand our cause and reach even more students this year and allow our fellow sisters and brothers around the school continue to be students.

Project Description

The mission of the Youth Action is to encourage youth to participate in missionary work and promote a culture of public service by providing sponsorships for those that may be financially unable to pay for their passage. As our cooperative grows, the organization’s mission will also provide direct support to projects related to domestic and international mission trips.

The Youth Action was organized to serve youth who share an ethic of service and who are motivated to effect change in their communities and the world at large. Our sponsorships will make it possible for all young people who share this ethic and commitment to public service to experience mission work regardless of their ability to pay.

Project Description

The Ashley Spears Art Scholarship Fund was formed in 2006 by Terry and Ashley Spears in order to help keep art in needy schools. All monies are raised in two forms: private donations and donations for charcoal portraits done by Ashley. Ashley began doing charcoal portraits of children for free in 2004 at the Great Gulfcoast Art Festival in Pensacola, Florida, where she draws between 300 and 400 children in 3 days taking only 2 to 3 minutes for each sketch. Just last year dd she begin collecting donations to this fund. She draws portraits at all sorts of events and places now. Last year a total of $1400 was raised and was used to purchase art supplies for Hancock high school in Waveland, Mississippi, which was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina. Last year, she was featured in the May edition of CosmoGirl for her efforts. This year approximately $1200 has been raised so far, but the goal is $3000, with $1500 going to buy art supplies for Enterprise high school or Enterprise, Alabama (ravaged by tornadoes, several students were killed), and $1500 to go to 3 $500 scholarships to 2008 graduating seniors in Santa Rosa County (Ashley's home county). Ashley plans to continue the growth of this scholarship fund to a national level.

Nuestro Ahora. . .Learning to Make a Difference

Growing up is tough enough. It's even tougher when you're all alon. We're comitted to changing exactly that, and by working with la Comunidad Oscar Arnulfo Romero ("COAR") orphanage, a rare safe haven for the otherwise abandoned street children of Central America's tiniest but most violent country, we are striving to give back the furture to the children of El Salvador.

Nuestro Ahora quips the young graduates of the COAR orphanage with a shot at university education, providing away for young women and men to transition from the orphanage to the ever-challenging real world. But Nuestro Ahora does much more than that. We work with the students, ensuring they have all the support they need to truly suceed. We provide the students with a safe place to live in addition to a stipend for meals, books, and transportation, so they can focus their energies where they're needed most. . .on their studies and dreams, and, of courese, back at COAR.

In addition to their studies, participants serve as role models to the many younger children at the COAR at the COAR orphanage. Whether helping with homework, teaching arts and cragts, listening to a young child's worries, or simplyin playing some futbol with the kids, the university students quickly become invaluable mentors, providing by example a sense of what really is possible. They reassure the kids that they're NOT all alon. They reassure the kids that DREAMS ARE WORTH BELIEVING IN. . .

Project Description

For my project, I will be creating a scholarship program for the school. In this project, I hope to relieve some of the stress of finding scholarships with the money you need for college, or any other post-secondary learning institute. In my project, the students who are interested in the program will become members once they are signed up and those who are academically qualified will become members that are qualified for the various available scholarships. When signing up for this program, the students will be required to complete the attached application, with parental consent.

My project will have a positive impact on the community because I will be teaching or directing them towards a more stress free plan when it comes to college money. The school, as well as the community will benefit from this project, because I could possibly alter the statistics on the amount of African-American students receiving scholarships for college.

This project is designed to be sustainable so that it can be taken over by future students. In this project, I want to establish a committee or board to run this program, so that after I leave, I can be assured that this project will be in good hands and can be ran swiftly throughout the years of UPHS. The chosen committee would have to be academically stable, and goal oriented amongst other requirements. I plan to also have some other adults to contribute to this committee by being the ones who maybe add on to the committee criteria and keep this project in tact. This committee would recruit members three times a year and control this project so that it can easily be passed on.

HUGS Helping Us Grow Strong was started by a group of friends at a lower income high school, with the dreams of motivating female teens ages 13-17. That are challenge by there environment as a result they act out in school to express what's going in their lives and in their homes. The truth is they just need a little guidance from their peers. We designed this program because I was one of these female teens. I had so many problems going on at home; that I expressed my anger at school. This program will influence teen girls to make a difference in their communities as well as in their homes. While enforcing education, health, community involvement and improvement. I know that this will work one inner city school at a time.....

Our design for this program is to pair each high school student to a college student based on their similarities .The High School Students will be invited into this organization based on a referral from High School Principal. We will conduct interviews for mentors at Albany State University and candidates will be chosen based solely upon their interview. Following the interviews candidates will be contacted for their membership. There will be a weekend retreat at the hotel. That will accompany the mentor and the mentee with the permission of the mentee’s parents. This weekend retreat will serve as a meet and greet for all involved in HUGS. The mentor and the mentee will meet a mandatory two times a month. These two visits will be field trips to (Movies, Museums, Skating Rink, Parks, Bowling College Tours Etc...)It will be mandatory that Mentor call the Mentee once a week to do a weekly report and to closely bond. We will request that teachers of mentee complete a monthly evaluation to show if the student has improve as a result of this organization. Once a month all members will complete a community service project. We will work closely with Albany State University to insure that this organization is welcomed. Bringing the high school student to on campus events will give them a taste of the college life and hopefully influence them to consider furthering their education. This program will address many aspects on life. At the end of the year two members of this will receive a $500 dollar book scholarship based upon their improvements. It will prove that with proper guidance anything is possible. This program will restore teenage girls self esteem, educational values, morals, and friendship. I believe in this, So PLEASE believe in me.

This grant is desperately needed to provide T-shirts, Snacks, Money for Scholarship and Monthly field trips.

Some kids have no self- confidence and that is why I plan to start a scholarship fund through my church for the next four years money will be raised for a high school graduate in the church so that they can become all that they want to be.
