In the summer of 2007, I completed my Girl Scout Gold Award. I handmade one hundred fleece children’s blankets and donated them to the St. Louis Children’s Hospital. I was able to give away one of my blankets to a young girl who had just been released from the hospital, in person, and I was able to see the effects of my project on that child, but also on my community.

To day we have made 46 blankets for Project Linus, an organization that gives "security" blankets to those suffering from illnesses (generally terminal) as a way to give them a little security. We learned that sometimes the medication that the patients are given make their skin very sensitive and the soft fleece blankets are a comfort and the bright happy colors brighten the stark hospital rooms.
