Dollars for Diabetes, an initiative started by Team Brotherly Love is a project run by kids for kids. It was founded after Team Brotherly Love started the JDRF Golf & Tennis Open one year ago, in order to get kids involved. The initiative gets children of all ages engaged in fundraising or what we call, "FUNraising." These youth philanthropists "funraise" at all community events ranging from town fairs to tournaments to athletic events as well as at retailers around the state of New Jersey.

Dollars for Diabetes allocates the money collected to both the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and to the International Diabetes Federation's (IDF) "Life for a Child" program. JDRF supports research toward new technology and a cure and "Life for a Child" supports poor diabetics and their family's in 23 third world countries by providing free medication, equipment, and education, literally saving their lives. This has led Dollars for Diabetes as well as Team Brotherly Love to have the moto, "Saving Lives. Finding a Cure."

Not only does "Dollars for Diabetes" raise money towards a cure and save lives, but it also teaches the essential ideas of philanthropy. These young children, ranging from age two through seventeen who help to raise money learn to ask for donations and learn what giving truly is.

After the success of last years event, we know that with greater advertising and publicity, we could engage more youth philanthropists and raise more money, particularly during this opportune time period of spring sports, school plays, graduations, and other outdoor events. To that end, if Team Brotherly Love is a recipient of this much needed grant, I would allocate these funds to our much needed local newspaper, radio, and public relations efforts.

Project Description

The Video Game Club is a group focused on giving the youth of a lower income community the chance to have a safe alternative in the evening. The group will meet once a week in the leasing office of the community. The evening will consist of a life skills building activity and then the youth will be able to compete in video games on teams and against eachother. The gaming time will help the youth build self confidence, self worth and help them develop skills in conflict resolution.

Project Description

TeenCHAT (Teen Community Health Action Team) is a group of 12 teens, who come together and talk about the issues facing our community and how they affect our health. Some of the issues we discuss on a regular basis include: racial disparities in school, the workplace, economic wealth, and health care. We discuss healthy options for school lunches, and how to implement them into the public school system; we discuss how to revamp the physical education programs in the Seattle Public School system. We put on local health fairs, open to the community, so that our voices can be heard. We talk with the community about heart disease, HIV/AIDS, teen pregnancy, obesity, diabetes, asthma, and other chronic and/or disabling illnesses. We work with mentors and trainers, and go to policy meetings in our counties. We visit the State Health Board, public schools, and community centers and try to get our cause heard. We work with small chidren to educate them about fitness, and how to take care of their bodies as they get older.

Project Description

Team Hunger Force is an organization started by Josie D. and Scott L. to raise food, money, and awareness about world hunger and how it plagues the world. We recently held our first fund raiser in our hometown (Cheboygan, MI), which consisted of a door-to-door canned food drive, a raffle for products from local businesses, bakes sales, and a concert series in the evening. While in the future we will not be hosting identical events, we are going to continue to promote awareness and try to make a difference across Michigan. We attended the Cheboygan Street Fair to alert people how serious world hunger is, and we will be at the Charlevoix Fudgie Fest September 1st, to talk with the community and let them our goals and dreams for THF. Aside from our main goal of helping demolish world hunger, we want to inspire and promote youth involvement while giving back to the community. All of our raffles, promotions, and donations will directly affect the community they came from so that the public can see the hard work they've put in to THF with us. Project Description

The project is to research the programs offered at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center and through varying scout programs and to determine which elements of the scouting programs can be completed during a visit to the Center.
The Center staff receive an in depth database of the rank and bade requirements that can be completed by visiting scouts and a brochure is available for visiting scout leaders and parents to use during their visit to enrich their experience at the Center.
The Center has approximately 55,000 visitors each year with 30,000 to 35,000 of them being children many of whom are involved in Scouting programs.
