See It: The Community being helped
My interests have always rested in the business field; however, it is difficult for me not to be passionate over contributing to the underprivileged or society in general. After a year in a community college I became aware of how many low-income and international students were unable to easily obtain fundamental information about how to protect their financial future or their current assets with ease. Many of these individuals were also being consistently exposed to job opportunities that required large investments while offering absolutely no return. After interviewing numerous students and discussing with them their problems, I realized that these individuals needed someone they could truly relate to outside the textbooks and classrooms; someone like me who has been through similar financial hardships. This is why I have spent much of my spare time in the past year developing a multifaceted organization at the Pasadena City College, which helps expose underprivileged students to real life business and investment opportunities. By collaborating with the President and Vice-President of the Financial Management Association of Cal State University Los Angeles, I am able to offer my club members a wide spectrum of vital information as well as a unique learning environment, which are both difficult to obtain without risking hard-earned money. The “Business Investors & Proprietors Club” of Pasadena City College was launched this Fall Semester 2007 and has been supported by over 20 students and faculty within a few months. My partners and I plan to use our multilingual language skills and business experiences to reach out to the international students who seem to be consistently neglected by their peers and faculty. We have also arranged seminars that discuss job opportunities available around campus in which students can look forward to participating in while still maintaining their grades. An innate quality and philosophy that I live by is to always be compassionate. This is the one trait that defines who I am and how I want to live my life. By expanding this organization at Pasadena City College, I have been given the opportunity to share insights and experiences with my peers, which, I believe is the principal basis for amelioration in life. As the founder and President of “Business Investors & Proprietors”, I've had the opportunity to be introduced to a multi-dimensional array of perspectives which has allowed me to be more open-minded of the cultural differences that are present in today’s society. I am confident that interacting with a diverse group of individuals in a comfortable business-like environment will prepare me for a future where affluent communication skills and cultural awareness are mandatory. As a dedicated student to the business field, I am impassioned to continuing my organization (or perhaps one that already exists) at a four-year college in hopes to reinforce our economy with more academically informed students. With this scholarship opportunity, I can further build my club with the funds provided as well as secure my financial needs once I transfer.
