For many years now, The Daytona Beach area has been immersed in expensive tourist traps that were meant to boost the economy. Unfortunatley, over time, this has not been successful, and the locals have had to face their fair share of let downs financially. The Daytona Playhouse gives the community an opportunity to overlook this in their lives and allows them to be apart of something wether they are in the audience, behined the scenes, or on stage providing laughter to the fellow community members that have fallen under hard times. A pure non-profit organization, all ticket sales, (proven to be the cheapest in the county), are used for the next production and for housekeeping expensis in the theatre. The volunteers at the playhouse don't have to pay a penny. It is a pure cycle that has worked for decades. Unfortunatley, the citizens that have kept the old theatre are now turning in age, and will no longer be able to participate. Because of this, it is my job to get the word out there to the younger thespians that care so much about theatre, and need a community that they can call home. With the support of this scholarship, I may be able to fund Summer or Winter programs for children, which the playhouse has not had in years. This is just one of the many ways I can redeem the playhouse's reputation and keep the cycle rolling.

The Performing Arts and Life Skills Academy of Georgia (PALS,) in its 5th year, is embarking on keeping Girls educated and physically fit through our community center sports programs to include but not limited to: basketball, volleyball, soccer, golf, cheering and step teams, YOGA, and a host of Performing Arts and LIfe Skills programs for youth. PALS host sessions on money management for Youth, tutoring and testing, preparation for college and/or become workforce ready. PALs also provide Historic field trips to musuems and guest speakers from around the world speak with our youth.

Our programs are designed to stimulate and energize students participation in our various programs. We have over 125 students registered with others on our wait list. (this list includes boys and girls ages 8 -17)

We would like to include all students that are on the wait list through scholarships sponsored programs such as yours.

Openly yearly, we offer Afterschool, Saturday School and Summer Camp programs for our students. Some of our students have remained with PALS programs the entire length of service (5 years)

Acting is something that everyone can do. It is also a great way to raise money. I work at a Church in crime-ridden Asbury Park, NJ. Everyday children see drug-deals and listen to gunshots. I want to change that by opening a Theater in the Church that can help get these kids off the streets. Working with volunteers from within my Church, i plan to hold auditions and productions using these kids. Money is the only thing we are lacking. This grant would make such a big difference for our group. Thank you for considering us.

Starting on April 26th, 2008 we will be going to local hospitals, nursing homes, senior citizens centers, The Pittsburgh Children's Hospital and other places to put on plays, skits, talent shows and more to make our audience laugh and enjoy life! During some shows we will share a bible story with the people and we will give away stuff. We look forward to putting on costumes just to put a smile on the people that we are trying to entertain and we hope that you will join us to entertain someone who needs a smile in their day!

Art is expression. The process of creating art transforms the artist. Inherent in that process of expression is the necessity to involve others in that transformation. As art has transformed me, I have been inspired to extend the wonder of theatre to children and my peers—to nurture growth in young people through their involvement in the arts.

I discovered my passion for theatre when I entered high school, and have relied on the arts to maintain my sense of “self” during this time of transition. I have developed tolerance, self-knowledge, and emotional availability through this artistic journey. Self-doubt has become self-confidence, conformity has become individuality, and apathy a quest for discovery. Theatre provides a portal to the soul—it exposes the intricacies of humanity on a personal level.

And so, having been so personally affected by theatre, I have had the opportunity to transfer what I have learned to others. I have worked hard to provide a breadth of experiences to help young people become more involved in theater. In my community I have:
 Prepared students for their regional and state Thespian competitions. Participating in such competitions provides students with an opportunity to learn about theatre from experts in the field.
 Organized and implemented endeavors to link and integrate my high school’s drama program into the community—for example, collaborating with a local State Park to create their annual Haunted Hayride which serves as a source of funds for the park.
 Worked in conjunction with a budding improvisation theatrical company to support their opening weekend’s 48 hour improvisation marathon.
 Served as a youth mentor in a local theatre to help young people learn the craft of acting and understand how it can affect their personal growth

I have also worked hard to expand and improve the dramatic arts in my high school. When I joined my school’s chapter of the International Thespian Society as a freshman, there were only thirty active members. In my role as publicity officer, I have more than doubled the size of the Society. This has involved:
 Publicizing the productions occurring at my high school throughout the community.
 Maintaining close ties with newspapers, radio stations, and local businesses to ensure that word of our endeavors circulates.
 Establishing ties to other high schools in the area to ensure that our productions are well attended.
 Providing venues for students from multiple schools to collaborate in drama—to develop a deeper and more sophisticated appreciation for theatre.

In my current role as President of my school’s chapter of the International Thespian Society, I am providing students with a breadth of diverse opportunities to become engaged in drama. In so doing, students are exposed to all aspects of the creative process and all that it means and facilitates in terms of growth and development.

I was part of a project that created and produced a fund-raising video to support saving the East Side School in my home town of Decorah, Iowa. It was built in 1897, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The video was used to show to people to encourage them to give a pledge of support for the renovation of the East Side School. The fund raising effort was very successful. My role in the project was as spokesperson on the video. On the video I gave a tour of the building and interviewed people who had ideas for programs that could be used in the school. Enter Erica Basco and Yokie Bertos. We're two high school with a passion for three major things: Social Change/Activism, Working with and leading teams of people, and film. It just so happens that these three things tie into each other about as perfectly as possible. The ability of film to carry and convey a message is virtually undebatable. Film captivates audiences, and opens their eyes to what ever message that film happens to be conveying. Erica and I, we have a message to get out. Film is just the way to do that. Mental health issues are something that Erica and i have both had extensive experience with. I, even, at one point i the past year was institutionalized after being diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder. this is something we wish to educate the public on. So may people still fail to understand mental health issues, and many people are still afraid to talk about those problems. Like I always say, If i had cancer, I'd tell people. That is a medical condition Why is depression any different? Another issue we will focus heavily on in this film is definitely that of discrimination. This is going ot primarily be in the area of gender discrimination, and discrimination based on sexual orientation. The presence of this discrimination, and how it cultivates mental health problems will be heavily focused on in this film. Currently, this film is untitled. However, a sizable portion of the screen play has been written. i should note that the screen play is being written according to film industry standards. this film will focus on the lives of two teenage individuals. The story conveyed in this film is meant to be raw, and real. Essentially an unglamorized account of two lives, and what struggles that endure. It is our intention to create this film, hold screenings, and submit it at local, and national independent film festivals. Both Erica and myself are somewhat experiences in the production of movies, and we both plan to pursue careers in the field after college.Despite the seeming scale of this project, it is with out a doubt somethign we can handle.

Currently some of our Fellowship Academy Students are doing some very interesting projects that YOU can be a part of.

• Lisa's Project(Truth.com Remix campaign) She calls it the ANTI-STD and DISEASE AWARENESS campaign!! Where she and a group of interested and talanted volunteers like your self will work on creating Commercials, PSA's, ads, and so much media around getting the message about the 2 leading things that are affecting young adults and teens! So please join Lisa! She films all of her commercials during the weekend. (We are looking for anyone in the field of MEDIA and PRODUCTION, that would like to help out too)
• Syreeta's Project -Consists of painting the city! She is engaged in bridging the gap of todays hip hop youth with the true essence and the foundation of hip hop culture through educatrional conferences,media presentation and mural art! so if your a hip hop head and love to paint, draw or just be creative, get down with Syreeta every single week to make MURALS and create PSA's around her message "hip hop saved my life"!
• Socrates!-is working on a talk show called the Streets are talking!-just imagine- if OPRAH did her show in the middle of urbanm communities sitting on a crate with guests being from these communities talking about there issues and what goes on in htere world. So if you are interested in Film production and looking to create a series of different shows, psa's and interviews-Get down!
