The community I'm helping is the worldwide teenage population, and the problem is depression and suicide.

In an average year, 30,600 teens commit suicide. This rate is rising. That's 30,600 teens who needed help, and either didn't receive it or just gave up hope.

I myself am a teenager who is personally recovering from depression and suicide attempts. The pain I have been through is unimaginable. I WILL NOT let other people suffer like I have suffered. Period.

Developing Divas

Developing Divas is a community based organization established by 3 middle school young ladies to promote self esteem and self confidence in young girls ages 7-14 years old. The program allows girls to interact with professional women in the community and develop a self confidence plan to further and/or develop their future aspirations. Understanding the importance of education, Developing Divas also provides an education support system that encourages the pursuant of excellence in the classroom and nutures a giving back relationship through community service.

Helping Victims from Family Abuse

Helping and caring for victims from family abuse. For example, violence in the house and helping victims to get away from family abuse to a safe and positive environment. Stopping family abuse worldwide! Giving abused victims support and providing a temporaily place for them to stay, until they are able to support themselves.

"Into the Light" Suicide Awareness and Prevention

In the Spring of 2005, two students at Person High School in North Carolina committed suicide. Everyone around the community wanted to do something about it, but no one was sure exactly how to do it. Many of the students of the school wanted to create plaques, draw, and have a full memorial for the two students. This is when I stepped up to the challenge and said, "Why don't we create something long term, to prevent this from ever happening again?"

THE NGOKETUNIJIA STUDENTS ARTISTIC SOCIO-CULTURAL ASSOCIATION WANTS TO REALIZE THIS PROJECT ON SHAPING THE YOUHS AND ALSO SHAPING THEIR FUTURE. A LOT OF YOUTHS IN THE CAMEROONIAN SOCIETY ARE GETTING PROMISCUES BECAUSE OF THE LEVEL OF POVERTY IN THE SOCIETY.
SO THE ONLY WAY WE THOUGHT IT WILL REDUCE THIS PROMISCUITY IS BY CREATING JOB OPPORTUNITIES AND ALSO TRAINING THIS YOUTHS TO BE ABLE TO DO SELF RELIANT PROJECTS AND SCHEMES FOR THEM SELVES AND NOT ONLY REALING ON THE GOVERNMENT OF OUR COUNTRY.

Youth Center

My husband and I have been working with a group of teens for a little over 3 years and we started with about 12 teens and have grown to 30 teens. We are preparing ourself vocationally to be able to provide a better service to the teens. Our ultimate goal is to be able to have a teen center in which we can provide, resources, counseling, tutoring and recreational activities in order to help teens overcome their problems and set goals for their future.

I'm starting this club called Girl Talk at my local community center. It's advice from Highschool for Middle school girls. It's nice because us Highschoolers have recently been through the stuff they are going through and can offer really great advice. I'm looking for real life stories that I can use to teach them about various things. Be it appreciation of culture, boys or even girls, friendship, sexuality, ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING! so if you have a story to share, or a website or book you know of, you can either post it! Whitney created a safe place where kids can go to mourn lost loved ones. She hosts an overnight camp for children who are experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one. Every kid is paired with a mentor who supports them through the grief process.

Sisters Offering Support

In 2000, Kelly Hill won a BRICK Award for establishing Sisters Offering Support, an organization in Honolulu, HI. Kelly helps women and teens to escape commercial sexual exploitation through a crisis hotline, peer-counseling and life-skills education.
