tree planting

Trees and Leaves

Trees have been around for many thousands of years. Not everybody knows that trees are an important componant of the earth. They help produce oxygen, while reducing carbon dioxide.

Keepin' It Green

Mission: As a group, we are striving to advocate to our community for environmental concerns. By designing a kick-off of environmental action, we strongly believe that people simply need the knowledge! As the catalyst, we hope to benefit our lives and those of future generations. Description: On April 26, 2008, we will be hosting a day of tree and flower planting at a local open space. Involving our school, inspiring our leadership, and envisioning our dream are ways we are taking the current problems into our own hands.

Play For The Planet

I would like to start a sand volleyball tournament and cook out at the Band Shelter on 23rd Street in Bettendorf, Iowa this summer. There are two courts there, so we could have two pools of teams playing at once. The champion form each bracket would play in the end. ALL MONEY EARNED WOULD GO INTO BUYING TREES, which would be planted around the city. I am going to try to see if Wallaces Garden Center (or some other local garden center) will sell us trees for a discounted price. If possible, I also would like to hold a barbeque for any hungry people nearby.

TeensLead

The mission of TeensLead, L.L.C. is to connect New Orleans area students and incoming volunteers to beautification and service projects in New Orleans; and to further develop individual leadership skills. We intend on achieving this through three goals. 1) Connecting local high school students with service projects in New Orleans. Most New Orleans high school students require service hours to complete their high school education. TeensLead will not only supply service requirements through separate service projects, but re-acquaint local students with their community.

StreetScape

I first found out about streetscape about a year or so ago. My family has always been eco-friendly, so it was no surprise that my father was looking to add some trees to the neighborhood. He found that an organization called Streetscape, which partnered Orange County and the University of Florida, planted trees for free. Our neighborhood, after an uphill battle, was able to finally plant trees. During the past year, as a senior in high school, I began to really take a look around my school. There were no trees and the ones that existed were dead or had gum and litter all over them.
