Mission: As a group, we are striving to advocate to our community for environmental concerns. By designing a kick-off of environmental action, we strongly believe that people simply need the knowledge! As the catalyst, we hope to benefit our lives and those of future generations.
Description: On April 26, 2008, we will be hosting a day of tree and flower planting at a local open space. Involving our school, inspiring our leadership, and envisioning our dream are ways we are taking the current problems into our own hands.

Here's the plan: We're going to grow a large plot of cut flowers this spring, organically - without pesticides, chemicals, etc.. Mid-summer, we'll get a spot in the local farmers' market and sell the flowers in mixed and make-your-own bouquets. All profits we earn will be donated to The Washington Community Arts and Cultural Center (Wash Arts), in Washington, PA.
Wash Arts offers instruction in painting and drawing, dance, theatre, poetry, and music.

I am planning on doing a service project for a local center called Saint Joseph's Center. It is a place where mentally and physically challenged children live and recieve the services they need to be as healthy and as happy as they could be. St. Joseph's also provides maternity and adoption services to the community. St. Joseph's also provides outpatient care to both children and adults. My brother has a form of autism called Asperger's Syndrome. He has recieved outpatient treatment from St. Joseph's. My brother loves to look and flowers and watch birds.

My Girl Scout Troop learned from a local florist about the large amount of flowers thrown away after funerals, weddings and other events. Together, we brainstormed an idea to set up a system to retrieve these flowers and recycle them into renewed arrangements. The renewed arrangements have a gift tag indicating "In honor of the wedding of _________"; In memory of the life of ___________"; In celebration of _________'s graduation", etc. to commemorate the donor or event.
