The problem I am trying to solve is literacy in low income communities. The best place to start is with children when they are young and give them the joy of reading.

"CHILL" or Co-operative Hospitality In Learning and Living is a club with the design of allowing students with special needs to form relationships with students in an accepting environment. Everyone should have freinds who they can turn to, even if they are different, while most school offers a variety of clubs to support many kinds of people the special needs population is often overlooked. Our goal as a club is to teach acceptance and good social skills as well as to help those who have been ostracized to be welcomed back into society by their peers.

Reaching Out
I named my project Reaching Out. RO is a club I made in my school where students choose on of their friends and are assigned a child with special needs. The pair of students go to the child's house AT LEAST once a week for about an hour and if they want they can go for even longer. What we do is we give the pair of students the name and number of the child and they call up the parents to see when they can hang out with the kid. There are many kids in my community who have special needs, who need our help.

Hello,
My name is Andrea. In May of 2004, I started a Live Journal community in the likeness of the popular CW television show, America's Next Top Model. In the beginning, this was merely for leisure and fun. I did not expect for the community to take off the way that it did.
The community, which has just completed it's 11th cycle/season, has become a way for people from all over the world that may not normally have the opportunity to model in the fashion industry (or even for the show), a chance to be a model. There are no limitations as to who can partcipate.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters is an organization that I greatly enjoy working for. I have always been close with my younger brother, and I absolutely love to work with kids. For this reason, I was interested in joining the Big Brothers Big Sisters. When it came to my attention that this organization was not available to high school students in Northern New Jersey, I worked relentlessly with the administration at my high school and with the Big Brothers Big Sisters to ensure that our students have an opportunity to be involved with this wonderful organization.

Project PUMP (People Uniting More People) is an organization started by six high school seniors as part of their service learning project. We decided we wanted to work with kids and help them reach their full potential after reading alarming statistics such as:
*Children living in the lowest 20% of income brackets are SIX times more likely to drop out of high school as those living in the highest 20%.
*Of the 7.1 million children who have at least one parent in jail 70% of them will in turn end up in prison themselves.

As of now, I am working with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Frederick County, my high school, and Do Something to start up a Big Brothers Big Sisters Club. I have recently recieved approval from Do Something to start this club and hope to get things underway in early September once school starts. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a community organization that pairs underpriveledged children from the area with mentors. While the mentors are usually adults, Frederick County's BBBS organization has a major shortage of willing adults. Because of this, they are offering teen mentoring programs.
