As our end of the year class project we dicided to take a deeper look at the availibility of steroids sold through the internet. We found out you can be any one, any age it is all annonymous. Our plan to STOP this problem is to create a program for the police to use and track/shadow online sales. If this goes through we will eventually find a way to use this program to track all drug sellers. We need this grant in order to make the program.

Healthier Lunches in Duval County Schools

The purpose of this project, initiated by a small group of conscientious teenagers, (Team Gaia), is to help other young voices, our own ages, affect change, by motivating, and educating people everywhere on the topic near and dear to our hearts: healthy eating. What we hope to achieve, is to get healthier school lunch menu items (featuring local farmers’ produce) into our Duval County schools in Florida, and to help educate other communities on how to do the same thing. We will achieve this through a documentary, blogs, podcasts and following the progress on our website.

We all know how hard it is to adjust to a new school or simply just feeling comfortable with your surroundings in general—all new classes, all new people and a totally new environment. Start a mentoring initiative where older students can help younger students get acquainted with the lunch line, short cuts and stinky locker rooms.

Chances are there are tons of people out there who don’t know the first thing about homelessness or the fact that it affects over 1 million young people each year. Make some awesome flyers so they can find out the 411 and how they can make a difference too.

Double Check

First, make sure you have the option of posting your signs on telephone polls and community bulletin boards. If your town won’t allow you to do that, see if you can pass out flyers at your town hall, public library, a local business or at school.

Get the all clear

You don’t want to get on your principal’s bad side so first make sure that h/she is okay with this sort of thing.

Get your teachers on board

Have the teachers promise to do something crazy (like crawl to work or sleep on the roof) & watch the jeans pile up. The hope of punishing a teacher has a way of inspiring people.

Get your peeps on board

You don’t want to do this alone so recruit all your homies to help you out. Pull the guilt trip and/or friendship card if you have to - hey, it’s for a good cause!
