Out city is Jonesboro, Ar. Our population ia about 60,000. The community we have reached out to is 60% Africian American and 20% Hispantic and 20% white American. The area our building is located in is low income and poverty stricken with a large number of single parent homes.

In Hudson, FL toward the northern half of Pasco County, we are located just across from a elementary, middle and highschool complex. After school we must get about 150-200 kids on Fridays. We are not sure why the huge numbers, butby the looks, these teens are simply looking for something to do. Little that we are budgeted for could even come close to interesting to this age group. With this grant we could get some video game systems and keep these teens interested with something they are familar with. Much cheaper than building a skate park, this would aid us in so many ways.

THE RBYA: RANCHWOOD BASKETBALL YOUTH ASSOCIATION IS A PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES FITNESS, POSITIVE MOTIVATION, AND OVERALL STRUCTURE TO LOW-INCOME, DROPOUT, GANG ORIENTED, AND TROUBLED YOUTHS. THE RBYA MEETS EVERY SATURDAY MORNING. MEETINGS BEGIN WITH TEAM BUILDING EXERCISES AND MOTIVATIONAL STORIES. FUNDAMENTAL BASKTBALL DRILLS ARE THEN COORDINATED. STUDENTS ARE THEN DIVIDED INTO TEAMS FOR FITNESS DEVELOPMENT AND PRACTICE. THIS ALLOWS YOUTHS TO LEARN TEAM AND CO-WORK THEORIES AS WELL AS THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN ORGANIZED SPORTS.

Many Americans today are in a state of emotional crisis. The continual barrage of gloom and doom and trauma and drama news has left many Americans in a state of emotional shock or feeling fearful and numb. According to The Conference Board consumer confidence is at an all time low. Statistics from the Disaster Center indicate that the overall crime rate is the highest it has ever been in the history of our nation. The U.S. Department of Justice reports that bullying in our nation's schools has been on the increase in recent years.
