18 in ’08 (www.18in08.com) is an unprecedented a national nonpartisan peer to peer youth voter engagement and mobilization organization created to register, engage, and mobilize young voters specifically for the 2008 election. The primary tool used to engage voters is the documentary film “18 in ‘08” through screenings of the film, followed by discussions with leaders and students and on site voter registration.

The Absolute Truth

The Absolute Truth began as an underground newspaper at a high school in upstate New York in response to the overwhelming censorship of the official school paper. Since then, it has spread it's wings, if only slightly. It is currently mailed out to several colleges and universities across the United States every time it's published, where the faithful alumni of the paper pass it on to their fellow students.

There is a disturbing issue with today's youth, and it goes much further then apathy. The youth of today's age is being put down by the adults who do not feel that the youth is old enough to voice their opinions on how they feel that they want their community, state, or even nation to run.

Voting Epidemic

I wish to hold multiple voter registration drives in my local community to increase voter participation in local, state, and especially national elections. I wish to have information on the presidential candidates and their political views readily available to my community during these drives and to start a website dedicated to this project that contains similar information. I wish to especially target young people that are attending high school or have recently graduated high school and are in college or graduate school.

Since 2003, the SustainUS Agents of Change program has brought delegations of U.S. based youth to conferences and summits related to international sustainability, primarily at the United Nations. The young people in our delegations work with government delegates, fellow civil society members, and other youth from around the world to promote youth-friendly and future-focused policies.

The YRC was formed to help high school aged students how and why they need to vote. In the club, we teach the students about different candidates, and their views. This way can make a more informed decision as they reach voting age. I think that it is very important that students become responsible citizens by voting.
