My favorite genre of music is country and I think that its fun loveing, positive message could influence the youth of my community and many others in a positive way. At these meetings we would teach those who dont know how to play instruments and for those who do know how to play we will provide a place for them to express their musical abilities and ideas with other people.

Create posters showing me in four of the activities that I do with the statement on them "If I Can So Can You, Do Something!" Then I will go to various youth organizations & groups encourging and showing youth how to participate in these activities and explain to them that you don't have to be the greatest in these activities to be fit but just do something to keep moving stay in shape and be youthful. Each would receive posters or buttons of me doing various activities.

S.H.OUT stands for Students Helping Out.
This is a club I started a few months ago, comprised of about 30 kids from my school. We work together on projects to better our own community, but have also reached out to global causes.
Our club has been very successful for the small amount of time it has existed. Our projects include making blankets out of fabrics scraps and donating them to a local homeless shelter, holding a bake sale and donating the proceeds to Feed the Children, and hosting a school dance to benefit the Rainforest Action Network.
More is on the way though.

Terp Movement
Learn ◦ Act ◦ Change
Terp Movement is a proposed week-long civic engagement event slated to take place in April 2009 at the University of Maryland. It will focus on identifying resources and raising awareness for human rights globally while unifying the university through student activism. While the week will educate students on an array of issues, the proceeds will benefit the crisis in Somalia.
The week will begin with speakers and films educating students on global humanitarian crises. After learning, the focus of the week will shift to action.

I work at the Wells Township Haunted House in Brilliant, Ohio. The house was set up to give teens something to do and to keep us off of the streets and out of trouble. The house is run by the Wells Township police, and adults as well as teens also work there.
We [the teens] are kept in a safe environment, because adults have to pass a criminal back-round check before they are allowed to work at the haunted house.
Some people think that the house is just a day care center, as such rumors have been spread, but this is very untrue.

For my project, I began building three pieces to a boardwalk that is going to be made up of 180 walkway sections 8" X 5". Along with building three of these sections, I also influenced and educated others about the necessity of this boardwalk so that our community can perserve the creatures and the nature that is Lewsiville Lake. By creating this boardwalk the community will be able to enjoy the natural environment of the lake without damaging the lake and it's surroundings.

My parent came to the united states whhen they were my age, 17 years old.
All my life I have been told that I would be the one to rise above and to make my parents proud and have a happy, stable life.
They want what every parent wants for thier child.
Unfortunaly, financialy, attending college will be an issue.
I am extremly involved in leadership roles as well as being a passionate in several organizations such as Save Darfur & LULAC.
During my short lifetime, I have seen my parents struggle, I have seen a woman being abused, a have felt a deeper calling in my heart to make a difference

My volunteer work in Mississippi actively accomplished building houses and helping people take their next big step in their lives. Specifically, I participated in the building of several houses and helped one woman (and her dog) move into her new home. So I was able to see the beginning and the end of the home building process.

L.I.G.H.T is an all girls literacy club at a local middle school. The purpose of the group is to enhance the reading and writing skills of young teen girls while cultivating good female friendships. The girls read books about young women overcoming obstacles and making positive strides in their lives. Also the girls were giving a journal to write in on a daily basis. The reason behind the journaling is to first give the girls an outlet to express themselves and second it is for the girls to chronicle their day to day lives as they see and feel it.
