The peace feast is an opportunity for youth leaders to stimulate a safe school community. We want to include NORTH LITTLE ROCK,PULASKI,AND LITTLE ROCK SCHOOL DISTRICT. We want to create a formal and classy environment where they're will be open communication. It is our goal to create a network of peace makers and peace seekers. Our goal is to minimize violence and to help youth discover themselves, not trying to impress others.

Project Description

The project will be based upon the following objectives:

1) Students will compare and contrast the cultural similarities and differences between the Middle East and Pennsylvania by studying and discussing excerpts from the book, Snow by Orhan Pamuk. This will happen in a cyber class using skype and the moodle educational platform. The goal of this class is to promote world peace, and discourage school violence.

2) Pennsylvania students will travel to NYC to participate in a cultural forum on teenage violence and conflict resolution in Western and the Middle Eastern cultures.

3) Parents will be encourage to attend the summit to support their teens’ initiative.

I will be teaching this as a cyber course at Pennsylvania Leadership Cyber School www.palcs.org. The cost of this course will be covered by Pennsylvania residents enrolling one semester in The Pennsylvania Leadership Charter School. New York City Area residents are also welcome to register. Project Description

The Old City of Hebron is a highly disputed territory at the heart of the Palestinian and Israeli conflict. International aid has focused on critical conflict intervention as well as medical and nutritional assistance. The children of the Old City, particularly the boys, are exposed to disruptive checkpoints, detentions, toxic tear gas, extended curfews, and physical searches. These affronts erode bodily sovereignty, both mentally and physically, which is vital to the development of healthy self-esteem. Israeli settlers and The Israeli Defense Force deny the boys of Hebron education, medical care and gainful employment. These conditions make them easy recruits for violent militias, which often condemn the boys to imprisonment, torture, and even death. This situation robs Palestinian society of productive citizens, and reinforces negative stereotypes of young Arab men. Roads are systematically destroyed and blockaded for the development of segregated roads and settlements that have been declared illegal by international law. This isolation has led to resentment and hopelessness in Hebron.

We promote the concepts of social cohesion and non-violent conflict resolution among the youth of Hebron in a secure and stable environment. This will be achieved through positive peer-oriented exercises such as self-expressive art projects, critical thinking training, as well as soccer scrimmages designed to promote teamwork. The program will also guide the youth through developing their own Internet sites on mypeacespace.org with the use of donated laptop computers and simple phone lines to counteract the effects of their isolation. We will create a peer-written theater production that illustrates how non-violent conflict resolutiona can be implimented in daily life. The program will be documented for the film Article 15, which i began shooting last summer in Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Nablus.

4 Peace was founded in October of 2006. Our various projects are innovative, well-organized and staffed with energized membership, but find themselves hampered by a lack of funding. The members of 4 Peace are aware of "Do Something” ’s reputation as a socially responsible and equitable community member, and believe our organizations are dedicated to the same goals. 4 Peace aspires to begin our work as soon as we possibly can, but we need help to do so. We therefore ask for the honor of your consideration for a Plum Grant. 4 Peace is an up-and-coming non-profit organization committed to opposing to all forms of prejudice, inequality, hatred, and ignorance. The members of 4 Peace believe that every individual should have equal protection before the law, and equal opportunity. As we work for justice and progress through activism, philanthropy, and education, we seek to empower citizens of the world to bring about a future that holds an improved quality of life for all. We are assembled to give voice to those who do not have one. We do this through our unwavering commitment to increasing education, strengthening economic development, promoting ecological and social harmony, and putting an end to extreme poverty and human rights abuses. Specifically, 4 Peace specializes in development-related issues at home and abroad. We are currently operating several charity projects. The extension of micro-credit has played a pivotal role in poverty alleviation and gender empowerment, particularly in South and Southeast Asia. Based on connections in India, 4 Peace is in the process of allying with an NGO named Ahimsa that specializes in offering micro-credit to women in India. Buying malaria nets for villages and slums in Africa has provided new hope for combating the disease, which threatens the livelihood of hundreds of thousands of people. 4 Peace has begun to research the necessary inputs for providing such nets to African clinics and villages. A potential partnership with the Southern Sudan Healthcare Organization will provide an avenue for dispersal of nets. The AIDS virus is currently ravaging many parts of the African continent. 4 Peace is also beginning to raise money for antiretroviral medicines. The group will focus its efforts on entry inhibitors. Prices for such drugs can cost up to $29 a day, so it is important for 4 Peace to contact other NGO’s regarding the distribution of antiviral medications. Such groups include the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, AVERT, and Zanzibar NGO. It is important to research generic medicines outside of the U.S. that are significantly less than the standard $10,000 a year. Generic brand antiretroviral drugs are the key to more universal access in developing nations. 4 Peace will choose a target nation and begin raising money for this fund based on further research on medication and logistical costs. 4 Peace also engages in lobbying. There are currently bills in the Michigan House of Representatives and Senate that will require that state sponsors divest from companies known to contribute to the genocide in Sudan. Sudan divestment bill H.B. 4854, which we support and which has passed the House of Representatives, has been tie-barred in the Senate with a bill to divest from State sponsors of terrorism. This new primary bill, S.B. 846 has passed the Senate and refers to 4854 as the operative bill concerning Sudan. Bill 846 is currently in the House Committee on Government Operations and a hearing shall be held shortly. To pass altogether, all components of the tiebar must pass. Bill 4854 sits in the Senate Committee on Homeland Security. Further contact with the offices of Senators Clarke, Bishop, and Brown, and Representatives Smith and Wojno are necessary and shall continue. The goal is to pass this bill before summer recess, as afterward the government will be busy with the budget and with elections. The focus of 4 Peace’s Better Borders Campaign is to use lobbying techniques to pass legislature that will improve the process of immigration as well as border relations with the United States and is neighbors. There are two directions in which this campaign can be led. The first option is to organize a lobbying campaign in which the aim is to convince a Michigan Congressman and Congresswoman to introduce and sponsor, legislation, which would stop the construction of the U.S./Mexico wall. The second option is to support elected officials, such as Mayors and City Councils, along the Southern border who have been very critical and outspoken against the construction of the wall and to lobby and urge others to take similar action. 4 Peace’s environmental division is currently working on a lobbying project to pass Polar Bear Protection Acts in both the United States House and Senate. Both versions of the Polar Bear Protection Act of 2007 are meant to amend the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 to strengthen polar bear conservation efforts, and for other purposes. Letters are being sent to each member on the respective subcommittees, urging them to move the Act through the floor and general debates. The members of 4 Peace strive to live our motto in every day life, by using our hard work, talent and resources to turn APATHY into EMPATHY and AWARENESS into ACTIVISM.

We are a group of teenages working to raise awareness and funds to help the genocide in Darfur.

We are a small group of home schoolers that have been studying Nobel Peace Prize laureates for the past two years. We were studying the Dalia Lama and learned that he has peacefully been working towards peace in Tibet. In the spring of 2007 we created a peace garden at our local community park. We made this garden to help bring peace to our community and create a place for citizens to go to enjoy themselves and experience peace. It's a round garden of about 16' diameter placed near a wooden bench with a redbud tree in the middle. Around the tree are hostas, liriope, and two soapstone plaques carved by our group with the peace symbol and the words Peace Garden. The mulch, tree, hostas, liriope, and stones were all donated to our group for the project. This project does need continual care.

I am trying to raise enough money for Merrimack High School Students to attend the Spring Peacejam conference in Chicopee, MA April 4-6th.

The mission of the PeaceJam Foundation is to create a new generation of young leaders committed to positive change in themselves, their communities and the world through the inspiration of Nobel Peace Laureates.The Merrimack school club, Random Acts of Kindness is a committed group of students who want to learn what they can do to make a peaceful difference in the world they live in.

Each student attending from Merrimack will need $125.00 to attend then the hotel cost and a van is needed to rent for all 13 students. You can see that this is quite an expense. All or any help is very much appreciated!

Inter-American Collaborative Law hopes to send a delegation to Venezuela this Spring. We are a group of young law students interested in experiencing a foreign legal system and society first-hand. We hope to foster understanding between the two nations by developing relationships with legal advocates and other Venezuelans. Because of the current climate of hostility between U.S. and Venezuelan leaders, we feel that person-to-person exchanges between citizens are crucial to preserving peace and addressing global poverty. We also think that we can learn about the ways our own legal system addresses poverty by comparing it to another one. We plan to meet with various community groups, law students, judges and others. When we get home, we will hold sessions at our school and in our communities to share our experiences. We feel that such information-sharing will help engage our fellow students in international and Inter-American issues. Our biggest obstacle right now is money. There are about ten of us in the group and we need to raise $10, 000 to send a delegation this year. We had a successful fundraiser in December, and are planning a movie-and-dinner night where we will show “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” and serve Venezuelan food for a small fee. We are also planning to have a bake sale and a flea market where students and faculty members can purchase used clothes and kitchenware. In past years, we have sent students to Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti and Honduras.

I started this club at my school after hearing about Invsible Children at my old school. The program has finished, but during the club season we raised money for children in Uganda that couldn't go to school because it was run down, the books and computers were too expensive, and there wasn't any clean water. We raised a little of $1,000 by sitting in front of grocery stores asking for donations, gift wrapping, and selling scarves, cookies, and water.
