The Florida Scene

The local music scene in south Florida has it's peaks and troughs. One night you'll see a hundred kids at a show, and then next month there will only be 5 people.

I've been going to local shows with my friends since the 8th grade, and sadly I've seen a lot (I might even be able to say "all") of them disconnect from local music. I remember going to shows 2 or 3 times a week, always knowing I'd have friends upon friends who would be there to hang out with, and then as we grew up we grew apart, and I stopped having people to go to shows with.

Teen Summer Service Project

This, the first, chapter of TSSP, would be in Baton Rouge, LA. Service projects would range from Random Acts of Kindness (RAK, see below) to fundraising to awareness campaigns to hands-on service. Causes would be decided by members on a weekly basis.

Club Music

In the area, there really is nothing to do. constantly you'll see teenagers, and even children as young as 10 walking the streets and just basicly getting into trouble. Drugs, alcohol, and violence are constantly seen on every street corner. The adults and authority in the area complain about the problem, yet give no solution. If you have no car, your limited to going to see an overpriced movie, or going to the walmart or target. If you do have a car, your expected to drive anywhere from a half hour to an hour an a half to find something fun to do.

Project H20

The goal of project H2O is to (a) increase awareness within the Eastern High School student body and faculty and the general public regarding the lack of adequate clean water supplies within both local and global communities, (b) use this increased awareness to inspire students, faculty and the community to support our fundraising efforts, with the goal of providing walter filtration assistance to a needy family or community, and (c) inspire others to volunteer in water sanitation projects by documenting our own volunteer initiatives.

The LAB

Goals:
-Find an unused plot in a low-income urban environment and transform it by planting a healthy diverse garden, where the food grown can be sold for almost nearly free to community members.
-Provide youth the opportunity to grow and harvest their own plot and/or have a designated area for creating a mural on the surrounding walls that will promote social justice, peace, and/or cultural understanding.
-Providing an encouraging, positive, and creating environment for youth and staff.

The Greenville RiverRock Festival

The Greenville RiverRock Festival is a free, day-long, live festival to support local music in the Greenville/Eastern North Carolina region. This festival hosts a rare opportunity for all walks of life to set aside differences in age, gender and income and enjoy grassroots arts at its best. The Greenville RiverRock Festival features eight local/regional musical acts, a hot wing eating challenge, karaoke contest, fashion show, Guitar Hero Tournament and booths for local businesses to sell goods and promote themselves.

Community Centers for At-Risk Youths

A quick video on the planning and creation of a community center in Bergen County, New Jersey. For this particular center, local citizens are chipping in and helping with the planning and design on behalf of the municipality.
