I am currently a Peace Corps Volunteer working in Esmeraldas, Ecuador, one of the poorest and most neglected cities in Ecuador and likely South America. There is a lot of racial prejudice and discrimination against the Afro-Ecuador population here and the government affords them almost no rights, or merely ignores them. The city is poor and dirty with an astounding unemployment rate and an average family income of less than $200 per month.

I want to provide community beautification through the planting of flowers, trees, putting up gates, and trash clean up. I also want to have programs for the youth ages 7-16, in which there will be reading, writing, mathametics, socialable skills, and the importance of knowing themselves. We also want to have trips to museums, zoos, art galleries, amusement parks, etc., in the hope that it will expand their minds and give them a broader look at life.
I think this is very much needed in a lot of the areas, in and around Atlanta.
