So I was just digging through my Live Earth footage and thought I'd give you a few more bursts of green inspiration.

I do not claim to be a master videographer, particularly with this camera in my shakey little hand, but i wanted you guys to catch this pretty cool moment as Leonardo DiCaprio passes the torch to Al Gore, who then introduces Kieth Urban's duet with Alicia Keys. The whole song isn't on here, but the speeches that Al and Leo give are strong and empassioned.

So I need to let the overall impression of Live Earth marinate for a day or two before I can give you a bottom-line. I will say this: The performances were excellent and the feel of the show was really incredible.

In terms of impact, I would love to have seen the footage as it aired on TV and will be curious to read the "audits" and reviews in coming weeks. While the artists inspired me, the audience did not. I'm not sure if it was their fault or the execution of the event, but the amount of garbage and recyclable waste piled in the parking lots and around the venue was so disappointing, especially having just heard so many inspired speeches.

I have to put my faith in John Mayer's comparison of Live Earth to a vitamin, with the hopes that some of us absorb what we need. Change begets change, and hopefully many of us can leave with determination to do something more for our generation.

Special guests at the event included the usual suspects, like Cameron Diaz and Leo DiCaprio . . .

. . . and some less publicized, but equally dedicated environmentalists, like Rosario Dawson and Rachel Weiz.

The resounding message at Live Earth was that celebrities and spokespeople seemed to be sending was that they didn't aim to be preachy or elitist in their environmental efforts, but simply hoped that if they make changes in their own lives, some faction of their fanbase will follow suit. From KT Tunstall to Rosario Dawson to Al Gore himself, celebrities focused on keeping their own side of the street clean, so to speak.

Fall Out Boy followed suit, with Pete Wentz saying:

"In general, the message should be non-political. We need to take it and personalize it and bring it into our own lives."

That being said, lead singer Patrick Stump said, "If you have something you believe in, you need to vote for it."

True dat.

My particular hightlight? Getting thiiiiiiis close to legendary ecologist Jane Goodall. Unfortunately, I do NOT have any footage of her doing the chimp-call that she did onstage. Maybe it'll pop up on YouTube soon . . . it was definitely bizarre and awesome! She plugged the Roots and Shoots program she runs for young people and stressed the importance of youth involvement in environmental concerns.

"We pray that we've got this critical mass of youth who understand that this world is about a lot more than making money."

More green fashion, coming to you from Live Earth!

Still confused about what the heck Live Earth aimed to accomplish this past weekend? As Gore has said, it wasn't the peak of his campaign, but the launch of a whole new initiative aiming to recruit people to make a pledge toward healing our earth. Pepsi had recycling booths set up around the arena. If people brought cans, they were given recycled freebies as a token of appreciation and promotion, urging others to do the same. The wristbands were made of rice and recycled inks, the wallets and shoulder-bags created from recycled Pepsi billboards.

Despite the great efforts, however, we were so disheartened to see garbage and bottles strewn everywhere. Maybe about 12 yards away from one of these stations was a regular garabage can for unrecyclable waste. In the garbage?

This is NOT the recycling bin! It completely enraged us to know that even this apartently eco-friendly crowd was careless enough to dump their bottles in with their food. It made me realize how second-nature a lot of our bad habits are and how thoroughly we're going to have to retrain ourselves to develop new strategies and methods for living if we are to see the change that Live Earth pledged us to make reality.

Here are a few more pics of what concert-goers were wearing on Saturday. Unfortunately, I did not get a photo of the very pregnant woman in a tummy-bearing top who had a globe painted on her belly! I did get these pictures, however, of the latest in recycling-chic and bandana-rama!

I'm never been a huge Alicia Keys fan, but she won me over this weekend! Her performances were dead-on and she really got the crowd going. Check out this pic of the crowd getting crazy during her duet with Kieth Urban. Who announced the song? None other than enviro-duo Leonardo DiCaprio and Al Gore!
