Rapper, Ludacris, joins hand with Better World Books and DoSomething.org and acted as spokesperson to launch the Epic Book Drive that provided the Recovery School District in New Orleans with over 250,000 textbooks to over 30,000 students.
More than 100,000 volunteers from across the country helped re-stock 69 New Orleans school libraries that were destroyed in 2005′s Hurricane Katrina. A series of PSAs were filmed as promotion for the cause and Ludacris says he was thrilled to see so many people rally behind the cause.
Ludacris announced in April his partnership with Better World Books and DoSomething.org to launch the Epic Book Drive — an effort that has mobilized 100,000 volunteers to contribute to the initiative’s cause of refilling school libraries ravaged by Katrina.
The Epic Book Drive’s site notes that 80 percent of New Orleans schools were affected by the hurricane, and just one book exists for every 300 students in the most underserved areas.
You might have heard that Ludacris helped collect 250,000 books for New Orleans through DOSomething.org‘s Epic Book Drive campaign, but we wanted to make sure you knew that 2-cent (NOLA) was also a huge part of making the book drive a success upon delivery.
2-cent’s Brandan Odums organized volunteers to help “level” some of the books donated in the Epic Book Drive campaign. Volunteers met at Harriet Tubman Elementary in Algiers to help organize 3,000 books for their library.

According to Epic Book Drive’s website, 80% of New Orleans schools were affected by the hurricane and in some of the less fortunate areas, students outnumber books by 300 to 1.

Earlier this year, Ludacris announced that he had teamed up with Better World Books and DoSomething.org to launch the Epic Book Drive to provide the Recovery School District in New Orleans with new textbooks. Now, it appears as if Chris Lova Lova's plan went off without a hitch, as over 100,000 participants supplied the Hurricane Katrina-ravaged New Orleans school system with new books this year.
