See It: The Community being helped

MISSION:
Party for the People is a celebration of community consciousness. This free and open-to-the-public, Brooklyn-based event is designed to build community awareness and engagement through art, education, and service.

APPROACH:
Party for the People aims to arouse and empower people to become more active in their communities by providing:
· workshops covering various modes of community participation including: arts & social change, investing in community revitalization, and leadership development.
· speech presentations by prominent activist speakers and local community leaders
· performances by politically and socially conscious musicians and spoken-word artists
· involvement opportunity booths by a wide range of community activist/service organizations from throughout the borough of Brooklyn

BACKGROUND:
In a society where the desires of the individual are often valued above the needs of the people, and where the media overwhelms us with global information, it is easy to become removed from our local communities. Many of us don’t acknowledge our neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, or other social circles we run in as “our communities,” and thus, seldom take the opportunity to play an active role in improving these environments.
The organizers of Party for the People believe that the revival of community values on a local scale sets the stage for greater societal progress. Party for the People aims to create a space for the acknowledgement, development, and celebration of this vital community participation.
