How to prevent skin cancer

We know how serious melanoma is, so what can you do to prevent skin cancer?
Tip 1

Don’t go to the tanner! The rays in a tanner are super concentrated. Is a tan worth saggy, wrinkled skin in a few years, and the possibility of cancer?

Tip 2

Avoid sunburns. Scientists think that even one severe, blistering sunburn in childhood can increase the risk of melanoma. Sunburns in adults also are dangerous.

Tip 3

Stay out of the direct sun, especially between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., when the strongest UV rays reach the earth's surface.

Frightening Facts about Melanoma

So many of us love the sun. Beauty mags tell us that a “healthy tan” is sexy and stylish. What they don’t tell you is that it’s dangerous! The good news is that you don’t have to hide inside if you use SPF. And if you’re tempted to lie out in the sun without sunscreen, remember the costs of sun exposure: wrinkles, sun spots, and, even worse, life threatening skin cancer. Here are some frightening facts about melanoma you may not have known:

Fact 1

Melanoma is a skin cancer that can spread earlier and more quickly than the other skin cancers.

Take Good Care Back Packs

When children are admitted into a hospital they experience numerous amounts of emotions including fear, anger, abandonment, rejection, resentment, loneliness, embarassment, and guilt. Take Good Care Back Packs is a support program I am developing with the Child Life Specialists at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Take Good Care Back Packs will be given to pediatric patients when they are first admitted into the hospital in hopes that the backpacks will provide the children with fun activities that will keep their minds off of their unfortunate situation.

Yummies for Sensitive Tummies Website and Blog are meant to promote education regarding Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease, Irritable Bowl Syndrome, and lactose intolerance. About 5-7% of the global population (men, women and children) are affected by GERD. In the United States 6-14% of all children suffer from IBS; 8% of middle school students, 17% of high school students. Many of these people do not know or understand that a diet accompanies the medicines they receive from a docter. We provide recipes, life style suggestions, cookbooks, and cookbook samplers to these people.

Cancer Support

Since being diagnosed with cancer, I felt the need to start a support group in the community. This will be a place where cancer patients can come and share their experiences. It is a place to cry, rant, share joy and so much more.
